Maggie Kamp Named Recipient of Sheila Wallace Kovalchik Award;
Swimming and Diving Teams Receive CSCAA Academic Honors

The MIAA has named Calvin College's Maggie Kamp the recipient of its Sheila Wallace Kovalchik Scholar-Athlete Award.
The Kovalchik Award recognizes graduating female seniors who have excelled in academics and athletics, as well as displayed outstanding leadership in their respective communities. The award honors former MIAA Commissioner Sheila Wallace Kovalchik, who served the conference as commissioner from 1991 to 2002.
A native of Orland Park, Illinois, and graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp was a standout performer in volleyball throughout her four years at Calvin College.
An outside hitter for the Knights, Kamp was a three-time first team Division III All-American. In 2014, she was named the Division III National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
In 2013, she helped Calvin win its second national title in four years as the Knights defeated Cal Lutheran University in a five-set thriller with Kamp collecting a match-high 28 kills in the final. For her efforts, she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2013 NCAA III Finals. Earlier in the 2013 season, she was named the AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after leading Calvin to a 4-0 record at the Midwest Challenge.
In 2014, she helped lead Calvin back to the NCAA III Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive year.
Kamp helped lead Calvin to four consecutive MIAA titles and was a three-time first team All-MIAA selection. In 2012 she was named the MIAA's Freshman of the Year. Over the course of her four-year career, she was a nine-time MIAA Player of the Week.

She is ranked second on the Calvin career list for kills with 1,782 kills, trailing only older sister Rebecca Kamp who tallied 1,868 kills at Calvin between 2008-to-2011.
Kamp graduated from Calvin this past May with a with a major in business marketing and a minor in studio art. A Dean's List student, Kamp has received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors three times, earning second team honors in 2013 and first team accolades in 2014 and 2015. In 2014 and 2015, she was named the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-American of the Year. Kamp is currently serving as an intern with The Integer Group, a national marketing and advertising agency based out of Lakewood, Colorado.
She has also been involved in the community, serving as a mentor with Calvin's Girls in Training program in 2012 while also serving as a Special Olympics volunteer in 2013, 2014 and 2015. She has also served as a volunteer at Degage' Ministries in the heartside district of Grand Rapids.
Maggie Kamp is the second member of her family to receive the Sheila Wallace Kovalchik Award as older sister Rebecca Kamp was so honored in 2012. She is also the ninth individual in Calvin athletics history to receive the honor.
Maggie Kamp is the daughter of Burt and Lori Kamp of Orland Park, Illinois.

SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams have once again received academic awards from the College Swim Coaches Association of America. Both teams have received the CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award.
The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
The Calvin women's team recorded a 3.52 grade point average during the recently completed spring semester. The Calvin men's team recorded a 3.33 grade point average during the spring semester.
