Other Calvin student-athletes to have received the award include Carissa Verkaik in women's basketball (2013), Joel Klooster in men's cross country/track and field (2002) and Chris Knoester in men's basketball (1994).
A business major and a studio art minor with a 3.91 G.P.A., Junior outside hitter Maggie Kamp has been chosen as the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-American of the Year award winner for women's volleyball. In addition, she has also received a spot on the Capital One Division III Academic All-America first team. Meanwhile, teammate Elise Biesboer has been named to the Capital One Division III Academic All-America third team.
Kamp is a repeat selection as the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-American(r) of the Year award for volleyball. She is the first person to repeat as the CoSIDA Division III Volleyball Academic All-American of the Year since the honor became a Division III-only award in 2011. Maggie's sisters Rebecca and Lizzie Kamp also earned CoSIDA Division III Academic All-American(r) of the Year awards during their respective playing careers at Calvin. Rebecca Kamp won the award in 2011 and Lizzie Kamp received the honor in 2012.

The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America(r) program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division III Academic All-America(r) teams program.

A senior from Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp was the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Year. This year she picked up the third AVCA Division III All-American honor of her career, earning First Team All-American honors.

A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Kamp led the Knights with an average of 4.05 kills per set this season and she posted an attack percentage of .267 in the campaign. She also contributed 2.14 digs per set. Kamp led the Knights to a 30-4 record this fall as Calvin advanced to the Regional Finals of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. A four-year starter at outside hitter for Calvin, she helped lead the Knights to the 2013 NCAA Division III Volleyball National Championship and the Division III National Semifinals in 2014.

Kamp, a three-time honoree with second team recognition in 2013 and first team awards in 2014 and 2015, is one of four individuals to earn a repeat selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America(r) Division III Volleyball team.

Like Kamp, Lodewyk is also from the Chicago suburbs as she hails from Villa Park, Illinois. A graduate of Timothy Christian High School, Lodewyk recently completed a standout sophomore campaign as Calvin's starting setter.

From her setter's position this fall, Lodewyk averaged 10.4 assists and 2.13 digs-per-set this fall. She also has a hitting percentage of .303 and collected 44 service aces on the year. She was a two-time MIAA Specialty Player of the Week this fall and was named to the all-tournament team at the Calvin Labor Day Weekend Invitational. She was named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year and was then named to the Great Lakes All-Region team and to the AVCA Division III All-America second team. As a freshman in 2014, she was named to the AVCA Division III All-America third team.

A member of the 2014-15 MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a two-time member of the Calvin Dean's List, Lodewyk carries a 3.85 grade point average while majoring in business.

Calvin has had three of its scholar-athletes receive Capital One Academic All-America honors this fall as Taylor Ten Harmsel was a third team selection in women's soccer last month.

Calvin student-athletes have now received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors 115 times.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Calvin men's basketball team fell to Grace Bible on Tuesday night. The Tigers trumped the Knight, 92-88. The loss moves Calvin to 4-4 on the year and improves Grace Bible to 10-4.
"That is on me, we didn't play with enough passion tonight," said head coach Kevin Vande Streek. "The game normally comes down to turnovers and layups, bottom line is we didn't guard and you can't win giving up 92 points. We are going to keep working and we have a lot of games left to play."
The two teams found themselves tied at 11 before the Knights broke the game open. Calvin would go on an 8-1 run behind three-point baskets from junior Nate Drews (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Hills Lutheran) and sophomore Tony Canonie (South Haven, Mich./South Haven).
The Tigers would continue to chip at the lead and even cut the Calvin lead to one. Senior Jordan Daley (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) sank a basket before the first half ended to give Calvin a 44-41 lead at halftime.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 5-0 run to take a 46-44 lead. The two teams would go on to exchange blows, including three-straight three-point baskets for the Knights. With the game tied at 87, Jordan Daley put the Knight up one before Connor Crawford gave Grace the lead at 89-88. The Tigers would make their free throws to put the game away.
Calvin had four players with double-digit points on Tuesday. Jordan Daley led the Knights in scoring tonight with 19 points. Nate Drews had 16, sophomore Mike Siegel (Fremont, Mich./Fremont) finished with 15 and Tony Canonie with 12.
Sophomore Michael Wilks (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) had a team-high seven rebounds and five assists.
Calvin beat the Tigers on the boards, 36-33.
