Swimming and Diving Teams Down Wheaton in Dual Meet Action / Women's Basketball Defeats Illinois Institute of Technology
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The No. 12 men's swimming & diving team defeated Wheaton on Saturday afternoon, 161-137. The win improves the Knights to 5-1 on the year. Calvin seven eight events on the day.
"This has to be one of the best dual meets I have been a part of," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "Top to bottom, results, emotion, and teamwork were all on another level."
The Knights started the day taking first place in the 200 medley relay. The team of freshman Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Johnson Cochran (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon), senior Brandon Muma (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) and junior Eli Hostege (Keswick, Va./Covenant) took first with a time of 1:34.50.
Brandon Muma notched an individual victory of his own in the 200 freestyle, finishing at 1:44.04.
Johnson Cochran touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke at 58.41. Cochran also took first place in the 200 breaststroke, recording a time of 2:10.08.
Sophomore Michael Moentmann (Solon, Ohio/Solon) owned the boards against the Thunder, taking first place in the 1-meter event at 296.70. He also took first place on the 3-meter boards at 303.90.
Calvin closed the day taking first place in the 400 free relay. The team of Brandon Muma, senior Mitch Schroder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), freshman Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and freshman Andrew Kasper (Batava, Ill./Marmion Academy) finished at 3:08.80.
The Knights return to action on Friday as they host Wayne State.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The No. 24 women's swimming & diving team defeated No.13 Wheaton on Saturday afternoon, 161-137. The win improves the Knights to 6-1 on the year. Calvin won eight events on the day.

Freshman Anna Serino (Pinckey, Mich./Pinckey) continued her strong 2015-16 campaign, picking up the first victory of the day for the Knights in the 1000 freestyle. Serino recorded a first-place time of 11:02.45
Sophomore Abby VanHarn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished in first place in the 200 freestyle at 1:56.03. VanHarn picked up a second victory in the 50 freestyle, taking first with a time of 24.53. VanHarn tallied her third victory of the day in the 100 freestyle at 53.61.
Senior Alayna Gallegos (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly, recording a time of 2:14.21.
Sophomore Nicole Langerak (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) owned the boards on Saturday, Langerak took first place on the 1-meter board at 253.19. She also took first on the 3-meter at 281.02.
The Knights finished the day taking the 400 free relay, the team of Anna Serino, senior Megan Schroder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), sophomore Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) and Abby VanHarn took first at 3:38.32.
The Knights return to action on Friday as they host Wayne State.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin 78, Illinois Institute of Technology 19
CHICAGO, Il. - The Calvin women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 78-19 victory at Illinois Institute of Technology.
Four Calvin players notched double figures in scoring in the win led by senior Jeanna Sybesma (Dalhart, TX) who notched a career-high 11 points off the bench.
Freshman Becca Richards (Port Huron) also had 11 points in a reserve role. Sophomore Anita VanderMeulen (Ann Arbor) also had a career-high 10 points off the bench. Junior Anna Timmer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Calvin shot 44.7 percent from the field.
The Knights are back in action next Friday, taking on Martin Luther College (MN) in a first round game of a tournament hosted by Wisconsin-Lutheran at 6 p.m. in Milwaukee.
