Volleyball Remains Unbeaten in League Play With Three-Set Win at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Knights improved to 25-3 on the season defeating the Adrian Bulldogs on the road, 3-0. Calvin clinched the outright regular season MIAA title with the win and improved to 15-0 in conference play. The Knights beat the Bulldogs 25-16, 25-17 and 25-14.
The first set saw the Bulldogs jump out to an early 3-0 lead. The two teams would exchange point until the set was tied at eight. The Knights would go on a 3-0 run behind the serve of senior Jamie Kooiman (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene). The Kamp sisters both recorded a kill on the run. The Bulldogs would bite back and tie the set at 15. The Knights would respond with 8-0 run behind the serve of sophomore Kristen Vyletel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) that gave the Bulldog defense problems. Calvin would go on to take the first set, 25-16.
Adrian once again jumped off to an early lead in the second set, the Bulldogs took a 4-2 lead before the Knights would go on a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. Senior Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) and freshman Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) both tallied a kill in the 3-0 run. The Knights would break the match tied at six and not look back from there. Calvin took the second set, 25-17.
Calvin broke open the third set, leading, 5-4, the Knights would go on a 6-0 run behind the serve of freshman Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich./Grandville), Anna Kamp had two kills on the run. Leading 11-6, the Knights pulled away even more with a 7-0 run behind the serve of Jamie Kooiman. Kooiman had an ace and junior Laura Danhoff (Willard, Ohio/Willard) had three kills on the Calvin run. Danhoff put the set away with a kill from sophomore Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, Ill./Timothy Christian) to take the third set, 25-14.
Maggie Kamp led the Knights with 12 kills, Laura Danhoff had 11 kills and Anna Kamp had nine for the match. Jenna Lodewyk finished the night with 35 assists and Keilahna Castillo had 14 digs. Senior Rachel Lubben (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Anna Kamp both finished with a solo block and two block assists. Calvin hit .292 for the match and had six aces.
The Knights finish the regular season on Saturday as they host the Trine Thunder for senior day.
