Women's Soccer Players Receive CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors;
Women's Basketball Ranked 10th in D3hoops.com Top 25 Preseason Poll
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Calvin College seniors Kelsey Hiegel and Taylor TenHarmsel have been named to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District 6 teams in women's soccer.
As members of the all-district team, both players now move on to the national ballot and are eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Kelsey Hiegel is from Mundelein, Illinois. She is a graduate of Mundelein High School. Hiegel has also been a four-year member of the Calvin women's soccer program and has been a starter all four years on defense. Hiegel was a member of the 2013 All-MIAA second team and is a two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Week. This year she has been part of a Calvin defense that has posted 10 shutouts. She has also scored two goals and garnered a pair of assists this fall.
Hiegel has also been a standout in the classroom, maintaining a spot on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll three consecutive years while majoring in exercise science. After graduating from Calvin this spring, she plans to attend graduate school in occupational therapy.
A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Taylor TenHarmsel has been a four-year starter for the Calvin women's soccer team in midfield. She comes into this weekend ranked 12th on the Calvin career list in assists (22) and 14th in points (84). She has 31 goals in her Calvin career - 11 of which have been game-winners. TenHarmsel has been a three-time first team All-MIAA selection and a two-time All-Central Region choice. Last fall, she was also named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Region list.
TenHarmsel is majoring in nursing and after graduating from Calvin, plans to pursue a nursing career in the Grand Rapids area.
The Calvin women's soccer team is currently 15-2-1 overall and in first place in the MIAA standings with a 13-0-1 conference mark. The Knights are at Olivet on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Calvin women's basketball team is ranked 10th in the D3hoops.com preseason Top 25 poll. The Knights are coming off a 30-1 campaign from a year ago. Over the course of the season, Calvin captured MIAA regular season and MIAA Tournament titles while also advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA III Tournament.
