Women’s Soccer Gains Shutout Win Over Saint Mary’s;
Soccer Teams Receive NSCAA Team Academic Award;
Women’s Golf Places Seventh at MIAA Jamboree

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Calvin 3, Saint Mary's 0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Calvin women's soccer team picked up its seventh-straight victory on the year Wednesday afternoon at Saint Mary's, 3-0. The Knights improved to 7-2 on the year and 5-0 in MIAA play. The seven-match win streak is the first since 2013.
Senior Paige Capel (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) got the Knights on the board with a goal in the 11th minute. Capel carried the ball past three defenders to put the ball and inside the right post for her first goal of the year.
Freshman Bekah Maguire (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) picked up her first goal as a Knight with a goal in the 36th minute. Maguire picked up a loose ball in the box and snuck it past the Saint Mary's keeper.
The Knights would go into halftime leading, 2-0. Calvin led Saint Mary's in shots at, 14-1, and shot on goal, 6-1.
Paige Capel netted her second goal of the day in the 80th minute with an assist from Maguire.
The Belles applied pressure early in the second half, challenging senior Holly Ellerbroek (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS).
Holly Ellerbroek was solid once again for Calvin recording her fourth shutout of the year with three saves. Rachel McCarthy of Saint Mary's recorded seven saves.
The Knights recorded 21 shots on the day, with 11 being on goal. Calvin also forced nine corners in the match.
The Knights return back to action on Saturday at noon as they host Alma.

MORE SOCCER

The Calvin men's and women's soccer teams have both received the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year.

Teams received the honor for posting a 3.0 team grade point average. The honor list was released this afternoon.

Calvin is one of 208 schools that had both their men's and women's teams recognized.

WOMEN'S GOLF

MARSHALL - The Calvin women's golf team opened its 2015 MIAA schedule with a seventh place finish at the opening MIAA Jamboree of the year. Wednesday's MIAA Jamboree was held at the Medalist Golf Club with the Knights recording a team score of 362, just five strokes behind fifth place Alma and Albion.

Senior Casey Harkema (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) led Calvin with an 83 that placed her in a tie for ninth place individually. Senior Jennie Poole (Summit, NJ/Kent Place School) was right behind with an 84 to finish in a tie for 11th place individually.

Senior Sarah Arendsen (Wayland, Mich./Wayland HS) was Calvin's third finisher with a 95. Senior Shara Reynolds (Big Rapids, Mich./Big Rapids HS) had a 100 and sophomore Emily Short (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) a round of 102.

Hope took first place as a team with a score of 317. Megan Klintworth of Hope and Amy Worthington of Trine shared medalist honors with rounds of 78.

Calvin is back in action on Saturday, competing at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo at the Milham Park Golf Club at 1 p.m.
