Ellie Benzel Named MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week / Baseball Doubleheader with Alma Postponed

WOMEN'S TENNIS

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Ellie Benzel its Player of the Week in women's tennis for meets played through April 19.
Benzel, a sophomore from San Dimas, Calif. (San Dimas HS), won both her matches at No. 2 singles in straight sets for the week. She posted a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory over Kalamazoo's Maria Franco, Franco's first loss to an MIAA opponent this season.

She also had a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles against Olivet. Benzel, who is 12-4 in singles play this season, is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Calvin is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Bethel College of Indiana at 2 p.m.

BASEBALL

Calvin's baseball doubleheader with Alma on Monday was postponed by weather. The doubleheader is scheduled to be made up on Tuesday at Calvin at 2 p.m.
