All-MIAA Swimming and Diving Teams Announced;
Kayla Engelhard Named MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week;
Megan Visser Named MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Men's All-MIAA Swimming and Diving Teams

The Calvin men's swimming and diving team have landed a record eight members on the All-MIAA team announced earlier today. Earlier this month the Knights claimed their second consecutive MIAA Championship. Calvin dominated the competition, earning 863 points to beat second-place Kalamazoo, who finished with 672 points, by a 191-point margin.
Johnson Cochran
A junior from Mount Vernon, Ohio, Cochran earned Most Valuable Swimmer honors at this year's MIAA Championships. Cochran claimed individual titles in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, winning each event for the second year in a row, and also took first as part of a relay team in the 400 medley relay and a record-setting 200 medley relay. Cochran is the Calvin record holder in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. He is making his third appearance on the All-MIAA Swim and Dive Team.
Skyler Fish
A freshman product of Ionia High School in Ionia, Michigan, Fish is making his first appearance on the All-MIAA Swim and Dive Team. Individually, Fish set a pair of Calvin records in two backstroke events, claiming the 200 backstroke crown in a time of 1:51.97 and finishing second in the 100 backstroke in 51.16 seconds. The 100 backstroke time beat the previous record by 0.01 seconds. Fish also swam as part of the record-setting 200 medley relay team.
Eli Holstege
Hailing from Keswick, Virginia, Holstege earned All-MIAA honors for the first time this season as a sophomore. At the championship meet, Holstege was part of Calvin's winning and record-setting 200 medley relay team. Individually, he provided key depth for the Knights, placing third in the 50 freestyle as Calvin's top finisher, then earning second-place in the 100 breaststroke behind teammate Johnson Cochran.
Caleb Meindertsma
Meindertsma earned his third appearance on the All-MIAA Team this season. A junior from Annandale, Virginia, Meindertsma is the three-time defending champion of the MIAA in the 1650 freestyle, which he claimed again this season in a Calvin record time of 15:51.30. Meindertsma also finished second in the 500 freestyle and 400 individual medley. Meindertsma holds Calvin records in the 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, and 400 IM.
Mitch Schroder
A graduate of nearby Grand Rapids Christian High School, junior Mitch Schroder is receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time in his career. Schroder was a member of Calvin's winning 400 medley relay team. Individually, he claimed second place in both the 100 and 200 freestyle, also finishing seventh in the 50 freestyle.
Brett Stoughton
A sophomore from Centerville, Indiana, Stoughton earned All-MIAA honors for the second time in his career this season. Stoughton was the MIAA champion in both the 100 and 200 butterfly, defending his title from last season in both events. Stoughton also swam on the wining 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams for Calvin. The 200 medley team set a new Calvin record in 1:31.67. Stoughton is Calvin's record holder in the 200 butterfly.
Aaron Venema
For the second year in a row, junior Aaron Venema is appearing on the All-MIAA Swim and Dive Team. A junior from Grand Haven, Michigan, Venema took first place in the 500 freestyle for the second year in a row at the MIAA Championships. Venema also finished third in the 200 freestyle and third in the 1650 freestyle. Venema holds the Calvin record in the 500 freestyle.
Tanner Vincent
A freshman from Novi, Michigan, Vincent earned All-MIAA honors in his first season as a Knights.
Vincent claimed the MIAA individual title in the 400 individual medley, then finished third in the 200 backstroke. Vincent also swam the opening leg for Calvin's winning 400 medley relay team.
Women's All-MIAA Team

Winning an MIAA-record 11th swimming and diving championship in a row at the Holland Aquatic Center earlier this month, the Calvin women's swim and dive team have placed six members on the All-MIAA Team for the 2014-15 season. The Knights earned the title with a total of 783 points, just 35 points ahead of rival Hope, who finished with 748 points.
Alayna Gallegos
Hailing from Lakeville, Minnesota, Gallegos is receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time in her career. The junior finished fifth in the 400 individual medley, fourth in the 100 butterfly, and third in the 200 butterfly. Gallegos was also part of the Calvin 400 medley relay team which finished second. Gallegos holds Calvin's record in the 200 butterfly.
Klara Oh
A freshman from Kent, Washington, Oh is being honored as an All-MIAA performer in her first collegiate season. Oh earned a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley, then claimed sixth in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 breaststroke. Oh swam the third leg on Calvin's 200 medley relay team which finished third.
Megan Schroder
Schroder is being recognized as an All-MIAA performer for the first time in her junior year. A graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Schroder was a member of the Calvin 800 freestyle relay team which opened up the MIAA championships with a win for the Knights. Schroder then swam the third-leg for the 400 freestyle team which closed out the meet with a team title. Individually, Schroder finished third in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 100 backstroke, and fourth in the 200 backstroke,
Lexi Scott
A senior from Richmond, Indiana, Scott is making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA Team. At the Championship meet, Scott finished second in a trio of events: the 200 IM, the 100 breaststroke, and the 200 breaststroke. Scott also swam in a pair of relay teams; the 400 medley relay that finished in second-place and the 200 medley relay that claimed third.
Abby Van Harn
A product of Grand Rapids Christian High School, freshman Abby Van Harn earned All-MIAA honors in her first collegiate season. Van Harn claimed individual titles in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle in her first MIAA Championships as well as finishing third in the 50 freestyle. Van Harn also swam the anchor leg for a pair of winning Calvin relays, the 800 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.
Erika Waugh
For the fourth straight year, Waugh is being recognized as a member of the All-MIAA Team. A senior from Berne, Indiana, Waugh broke her own MIAA and Calvin record by winning the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:02.62, besting her old time by nearly a second. Waugh also finished third in the 200 IM and second in the 100 backstroke. Waugh swam the opening leg of Calvin's winning 800 freestyle relay team. Waugh also holds the Calvin record in the 100 backstroke. Waugh is the 13th individual in Calvin women's swimming and diving history to be named a four-time All-MIAA selection.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin guard Kayla Engelhard its Player of the Week in women's basketball for games played through February 21.
Engelhard, a senior from Unionville (Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS), averaged 13 points per game last week as the Knights won three consecutive games to clinch the MIAA championship and their first unbeaten regular season in school history. She had 17 points, four assists and three steals in a 96-62 victory over Saint Mary's, 10 points and six rebounds in a 61-44 title-clinching win over Hope and 12 points in an 85-71 win over Kalamazoo.
Engelhard, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career, shot 42 percent from the field (15 of 36) and 87 percent from the line (7 of 8) for the week.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Megan Visser its Player of the Week in women's tennis for matches played through February 22.
Visser, a senior from Kalamazoo (Kalamazoo Christian HS), posted wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Knights defeated crosstown rival Aquinas 6-3, avenging an 8-1 loss to the Saints last year. She won her singles match in straight sets, 7-6 (6), 7-5, and teamed up with Claire Spoelhof for an 8-3 win in doubles.
Visser is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time in her career.
