VOLLEYBALL

Maggie Kamp, a junior outside hitter from Calvin College, was named the class of 2015 DIII Athlete of the Year nominee for volleyball as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
She is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DIII Honda Woman Athlete of the Year honor. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 38th year.
A native of Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp was recently named the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Year and picked up her second AVCA Division III All-American honor. The AVCA Player of the Year also earned the top academic honor being named the 2014 Capital One/CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-American of the year for volleyball.
She is the third sister from her family to be named both National Player of the Year and Academic All-American of the Year as older sisters Rebecca Kamp (2011) and Lizzie Kamp (2012) previously did so.
Kamp led the Knights with an average of 4.42 kills per set this season, ranking 13th in Division III in the category. She posted an attack percentage of .289 in the campaign and contributed 2.69 digs per set. Kamp finished her junior campaign ranked 17th in Division III with 4.87 points per set. She led the Knights to a 31-4 record as Calvin advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament.
"This is truly an unbelievable honor, "stated Kamp. "There are so many other great players around the country in Division III that are just as deserving so I am very humbled to receive this nomination."
"It is rare to be able to coach a person that excels in both athletics and academia at the very top of her peers," said head coach Amber Warners. "Maggie is one of those individuals. But besides both of those things, she is a person of integrity and faith. Her teammates and coaches not only respect her but also love her. We are all very excited to share in this award with her. I am very grateful and humbled that she chose to pursue her education and athletic career at Calvin."
All sports nominees from DIII and DII become a finalist for the prestigious 2015 Honda Collegiate Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in June. The sports nominees are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation's top NCAA women athletes for 38 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its sponsorship in 1986, Honda has provided more than $2.8 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women's athletics programs at the institutions.
