For the fifth time in six years, Calvin College cross country coach Brian Diemer has been named the Division III Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year in women's cross country.
The award was announced earlier today by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
Calvin, led by Brian Diemer in his ninth year, took the crown for the second-straight year and the seventh time and eight years. This year's region win was spurred by individual champ, sophomore Cassandra Vince. The squad's top five finished all in the top 10 for the MIAA crown with 27 points.
Wednesday marked an eventful day for Diemer. Not only was he named Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year but he also became a grandfather for the first time as his oldest daughter Kelsey (Diemer) Klingenberg along with her husband Joel Klingenberg welcomed son Rowan Jeffrey Klingenberg into the world.
The future Calvin Knight weighed in at 7 lbs, 7oz and 20.5 inches long. Mother, father and child are doing well with Grandpa Diemer scheduled to visit his new Grandson next week after coaching both of Calvin's cross country teams at the NCAA III Championships this Saturday in Kings Island, Ohio.
