Volleyball Headed to Wisconsin for NCAA III Tournament Play / Kamp and Biesboer Receive Weekly Honors From MIAA / Men's Soccer to Host NCAA III Regional / Van Doorne Receives MIAA Player of the Week Honors / Brett Stoughton Honored by MIAA In Men's Swimming

VOLLEYBALL

The Calvin women's volleyball team will head to the state of Wisconsin this weekend for an eight-team NCAA III regional hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Calvin (27-3) will face Wisconsin-Oshkosh (31-7) in a first round match on Thursday at a time yet to be announced. Other first round matches will see host Carthage (34-3) going up against Dominican (24-11), Chicago (26-12) going up against DePauw (26-10) and Elmhurst (30-8) going up against Wisconsin-Whitewater (26-8).
Thursday's winners will play in regional semifinals on Friday at 4:30 and 7 p.m. (CST) with the regional final set for Saturday at 7 p.m. (CST).
Calvin's first round match against Wisconsin-Oshkosh will mark the second time the two teams will have met in NCAA III Tournament play. The Titans won the first meeting back in 1991, defeating the Knights 15-9, 15-9, 15-13 in a first round match.
Calvin is making its 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA III Tournament and its 24th appearance overall. The Knights are 39-23 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play. A year ago, Calvin captured its second national championship in the last four years, defeating Cal Lutheran in the championship final in Holland, Michigan.

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin right side hitter Stacey Kamp its Player of the Week and libero Elise Biesboer its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for this past week's MIAA volleyball tournament.
Kamp, a senior from Palos Heights, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had a team-high hitting percentage of .522 (12 kills and no errors in 23 attempts) as the Knights defeated Trine and Hope to win the MIAA tournament. It's the second year in a row that Kamp has been named Player of the Week for her play in the MIAA tournament, and it's the second time she's been Player of the Week in her career.
Biesboer, a senior from Elmhurst, Ill. (Timothy Christian HS), had 40 digs for an average of 4.4 per set, and a serve reception percentage of 98 percent with only one error in helping Calvin win the MIAA tournament. She had 28 digs as the Knights defeated Trine in the tournament semifinals. Biesboer is being honored as Specialty Player of the Week for the second time this season and in her career.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin men's soccer team will host a four-team NCAA III regional this Friday and Saturday. Calvin will host Rose-Hulman in a first round game on Friday at 11 a.m. with Ohio Wesleyan and Penn State-Behrend to meet at 1:30 p.m. in the other Friday game. Starting times have not yet been set.

Friday's winners will meet in the regional final on Saturday at 1 p.m..

Calvin (18-2-1) will be making its 12th appearance in the NCAA III Tournament including its seventh in the last eight years.

Calvin captured the MIAA regular season title with a 14-0-0 league record and claimed the MIAA Tournament title this past weekend.

Rose-Hulman (14-4-3) earned a bid to the NCAA III tournament by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title, defeating Transylvania 1-0 in the HCAC Tournament title game.

Ohio Wesleyan (15-4-2) is receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament. The Battling Bishops were the regular season champions of the North Coast Athletic Conference and then fell 2-1 to Kenyon in the NCAC Tournament finals.

Penn State-Behrend (18-3-0) advanced to the NCAA III Tournament by winning the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament title with a 1-0 win over Medaille. The Lions were also AMCC regular season champions.

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin midfielder Isky Van Doorne its Offensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through November 8.
Van Doorne, a sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, Canada (Western Canada HS), scored Calvin's only goal in the MIAA tournament championship game, and also scored in the penalty kick shootout as the Knights won the shootout 8-7 over Kalamazoo after the teams played to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes.
Van Doorne was also an offensive force with four shots on goal in Calvin's 2-0 semifinal win over Alma. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Calvin is currently 18-2-1 overall and will entering NCAA III Tournament play this weekend.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Brett Stoughton its Men's Athlete of the Week in swimming and diving for meets through November 8.
Stoughton, a sophomore from Centerville, Ind. (Centerville HS), won two events and swam on a winning relay for the Knights in their nonconference dual meet win over Wheaton, Ill. He won the 100 butterfly in :52.18 and the 200 butterfly in 1:57.81, and swam a :23.4 butterfly split for Calvin's winning 200 medley relay team.
Stoughton currently carries the fastest time in the MIAA in both fly events. He is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
