Volleyball Players Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors;
Cross Country Runners Receive Weekly MIAA Honors;
Giantsopoulos Named MIAA Defensive Player of Week in Men's Soccer
Former Calvin Running Standout Wins Denver Marathon

VOLLEYBALL

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin outside hitter Maggie Kamp its Player of the Week and Calvin setter Jenna Lodewyk its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through Oct. 18.
Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), slammed 50 kills for a hitting percentage of .390 and added 26 digs as Calvin won three straight MIAA matches. She delivered 18 kills with a .425 hitting percentage and 10 digs in a sweep of Saint Mary's and added 17 kills, a .452 hitting percentage and eight digs as the Knights swept Adrian. Kamp is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and fifth time in her career.
 Lodewyk, a freshman from Villa Park, Ill. (Timothy Christian HS), dished out 118 assists (13.1 per set) and set up a Calvin offense that had a team hitting percentage of .371 as the Knights swept three straight matches against MIAA opponents. She had 45 assists and 11 digs in a sweep of Adrian and 35 assists, eight digs and five kills in a sweep of Kalamazoo. Lodewyk, who currently leads the MIAA in assists with 11.4 per set, is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Ranked fourth nationally, Calvin (22-3 overall, 12-1 MIAA) will take on top-ranked Hope Wednesday night at Van Noord Arena with opening serve set for 6:30 p.m.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Josh Ferguson and Lauren Strohbehn as its Runners of the Week in cross country for meets through Oct. 18.
Ferguson, a junior from Naperville, Ill. (Neuqua Valley HS), finished 62nd overall with a time of 25:30.7 at the Brooks Invitational at Oshkosh, Wis. His efforts helped the Knights place 12th among 45 teams competing in the meet. He is receiving the award for the first time.
Strohbehn, a freshman from Stillwater, Minn. (St. Croix Prepratory), finished 16th at the Brooks Invitational in Oshkosh, Wis., covering the 6-kilometer course in 21:40.93. Her run helped the Knights place sixth among 42 competing teams. She is being honored as Runner of the Week for the first time in her career.

MEN'S SOCCER

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos its Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Oct. 18.
Giantsopoulos, a juuior from Markham, Ontario, Canada (St. Augustine Catholic HS), recorded two shutout wins as the 10-0 Knights moved closer to claiming the conference championship. He made four saves in a 3-0 win over Kalamazoo and one save in a 2-0 shutout of Hope.
Giantsopolous leads the MIAA in shutouts (6), goals-against average (0.26) and save percentage (.923) in league play. It's the first time in his career he has been named Player of the Week.
Calvin is currently 13-2-0 overall and 10-0-0 in the MIAA. The Knights hold a nine-point lead for first place in the league standings and will host Adrian on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

ALUMNI RUNNING NEWS
Former Calvin standout cross country and track and field standout Paul Petersen captured the Denver Marathon yesterday afternoon with a time of two hours, 26 minutes and 41 seconds.

Now a resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, Petersen was graduated from Calvin in the spring of 2002.

As a member of the Calvin men's cross country and men's track and field teams, Petersen was a standout runner, earning NCAA III Cross Country All-America accolades in 2000 as he helped the Knights win their first-ever national title.

He was later earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Petersen has continued his running career while living and working in Colorado. He qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon trials in Houston.
