Men's Golf Second at Home MIAA Jamboree;
Vince and Nowicki Receive MIAA Cross Country Runner of the Week Honors;
Taylor Pruis Named MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
MEN'S GOLF
CASCADE - The Calvin men's golf team took second place on its home course Monday afternoon as the Knights hosted the sixth MIAA Jamboree of the league's fall season.
The Knights posted a team score of 303 strokes, six strokes behind league-leading Hope. Trine finished one stroke behind Calvin and remains 13 strokes ahead of Calvin in the overall league standings in the race for second place.
Junior Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman John Van Noord (Troy/Oakland Christian HS) led the way for the Maroon and Gold as both Knights carded rounds of 73 which was good for a tie for third place individually.
With his round of 73, Van Noord remains in first place in the overall MIAA individual standings with a league average of 73.0 strokes-per-round heading into the final two league outings.
Junior Jason Zeigler (Mount Gilead, OH/Mount Gilead Christian HS) had a round of 78 and freshman Ben Van Scoyk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) a 79.
Senior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) rounded out Calvin's finishers with a round of 81.
Evan Telzerow of Hope claimed medalist honors on Monday with a round of 71.
Calvin swings back into league action on Thursday, competing at a league jamboree hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Player's Club at 1 p.m.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Zac Nowicki and Cassie Vince as its Runners of the Week in cross country for meets through Sept. 28.
Nowicki, a sophomore from Comstock Park (Grandville Calvin Christian HS), led from start to finish as he took first place Saturday at the MIAA Jamboree at Kalamazoo, leading Calvin to victory in the meet. He used a strong kick over the final 1,000 meters to hold off a challenge by Adrian's Thomas Windle, winning the 8-kilometer race by 10 seconds in 25:35. Nowicki is being honored as Runner of the Week for the first time this season and third time in his career.
Vince, a sophomore from Amherst, Ohio (Amherst HS), led a Calvin sweep of the first three places Saturday as the Knights won the MIAA Jamboree at Kalamazoo. Vince covered the 6-kilometer course at Eastern Hills Golf Course in 22:29. It's the second time she has been named Runner of the Week this season and the third time in her career.
MEN'S SOCCER
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin midfielder Taylor Pruis its Offensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Sept. 28.
Pruis, a junior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), scored in each game as the Knights moved into sole possession of first place in the MIAA with a pair of conference wins. His second-half goal off a crossing pass iced a 4-1 victory over nationally-ranked Hope, and he scored the game's first goal in a 3-0 win over Adrian.
It's the first time this season and second time in his career that Pruis has been named Player of the Week.
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Trine at Zuidema Field at 4 p.m.
