Men's Golf Takes Second at MIAA Jamboree - John Van Noord is Medalist
MEN'S GOLF
MARSHALL - The Calvin men's golf team posted a second place team score of 307 strokes at the third MIAA Jamboree of the season. Trine took first place with a score of 305 with Hope third at 309. Calvin is now within eight strokes of league-leading Hope in the overall standings but is also now tied for second place with Trine.
Thursday's tournament was hosted by Albion at the Medalist Golf Club.
A pair of freshmen led the way for Calvin as John Van Noord (Troy/Oakland Christian HS) claimed medalist honors with a two-under par round of 70. Van Noord had four birdes on the front nine and one on the back.
Freshman teammate Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next with a round of 75 that was good for a tie for fourth place individually. Senior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) and junior Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had rounds of 81 while junior Jason Zeigler (Mount Gilead, OH/Gilead Christian HS) had an 89.
Calvin returns to action on September 22 when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo at the Kalamazoo Country Club.
