Calvin Cross Country Teams Crack National and Regional Polls
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The Calvin men's and women's cross country teams have both cracked the preseason Division III national and regional polls released by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association this week.
The Calvin women's cross country team is ranked seventh in the USTFCCCA Division III National poll and second in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll. Oberlin (Oh.) is ranked first in the Great Lakes regional poll and fifth in the national poll.
On the men's side, Calvin is ranked 23rd nationally and second in the Great Lakes Region. Defending Great Lakes Regional champion Wabash in the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region and also ranked 18th nationally.
St. Olaf (MN) is the top-ranked team in the men's national poll while Johns Hopkins (Md.) holds the top spot in the women's national poll.
In 2013, the Calvin women's cross country team finished seventh at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships while also capturing MIAA and Great Lakes Regional titles. The Calvin men's cross country team also captured an MIAA title while placing second at the Great Lakes Regional meet and 27th at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships.
Both teams are scheduled to open their 2014 campaigns on September 13 when they host the Knight Invitational at the Gainey Athletic Complex.
