Track and Field Teams and Athletes Receive USTFCCCA Academic Honors/Women’s Golf Coach and Players to Assist with Upcoming LPGA Event in West Michigan

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's and women's track and field teams have once again received the All-Academic Team Award from the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. The Calvin women's team has now received the award 13 consecutive years while the Calvin men's team has received the honor six straight years.
In order to receive the award, a team needed to have posted a minimum 3.10 grade point average or better. The Calvin women's team posted a 3.41 grade point average while the Calvin men's team recorded a 3.18 grade point average.
In addition, four members of the Calvin men's track and field team and seven members of the Calvin women's track and field team have received individual USTFCCCA All-Academic status.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
The four members of the Calvin men's track and field team to receive USTFCCCA individual honors include senior David Vande Bunte (Byron Center/Byron Center HS), juniors Steven Haagsma (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) and Erik Holstege (Keswick, VA/Monticello HS and sophomore Eric Jipping (Canton/Plymouth Christian HS).
The seven members of the Calvin women's track and field team to receive the USTFCCCA individual award include seniors Alyssa Oram (Cheboygan, Mich./Home Schooled), Hilary Banning (Whitinsville, MA/Whitinsville Christian HS), Lauren Madden (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) and Nicole Michmerhuizen (Holland/Holland Christian HS) and juniors Paige McGahan (Brighton/Brighton HS) and Sarah Danner (Watkins Glen, NY/Charles Dickerson HS) and freshman Cassie Vince (Amherst, OH/Amherst HS).
Both Calvin track and field teams were led by fifth-year head coach Bret Otte. His men's and women's teams have received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award all five years during his tenure.

WOMEN’S GOLF

For the first time in 14 years, professional women's golf will be coming to Michigan to play in an LPGA Tour event, and Calvin women's golf coach Dr. Jerry Bergsma will be one of over 600 volunteers who hopes to make the event one that top-notch players will not only enjoy but make a point of returning to.
