Matt Schepel Named MIAA Position Player of the Week in Baseball - MIAA Tournament Set to Begin Wednesday / Calvin Women's Track and Field & Baseball Teams Land on Weekly Mlive.com Top 5 List

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin outfielder Matt Schepel its Position Player of the Week for games played through May 4.
Schepel, a senior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), hit .556 (10-for-18) with four doubles, two home runs, seven runs scored and 15 runs batted in as the Knights posted a 5-1 record for the week.
He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs as Calvin clinched home-field advantage for the first round of this week's MIAA baseball tournament with a 5-4 victory over conference champion Adrian. He also belted a grand slam home run in a 6-5 win over the Bulldogs.
Schepel is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career.
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Hope at 4 p.m. at Calvin Field in a first round MIAA Tournament game. The first round game will kick off the three-day double-elimination league tournament that will determine the MIAA's automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Tournament that begins next week.
Adrian will host Kalamazoo on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the other first round game. All games will then continue on Friday and Saturday at Adrian's Nicolay Field.
