Men's Tennis Falls to Cornerstone;
Lacrosse Games at Hope Postponed;
Baseball Series With Kalamazoo Moved to Davenport;
Alumni Reception Planned for Friday Night at Illinois Wesleyan Men's Basketball Sectional
MEN'S TENNIS
Cornerstone 7, Calvin 2
The Calvin men's tennis team dropped its 2014 dual match opener by a score of 7-2 to Cornerstone University last Tuesday night inside Calvin's Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Cornerstone (9-5) took control early by winning two of the three doubles points with all three doubles matches tightly contest.
At one doubles, Calvin's tandem of Loukas Peterson and Taylor Asfour dropped a tight 9-7 decision to the team of Elijah Yi and Austin Hunt.
At two doubles, Andrew Son and Santiago Mackrey of Cornerstone edged Calvin's Matt Buesing and John Strikwerda 8-6.
Calvin's lone doubles point came a three doubles as Tom Griffin and Stephen Healy defeated Alex Tarnow and Brad Miedema 9-7.
In singles, Calvin's lone win came at five singles as John Strikwerda won by default after leading 5-4 in the first set.
Calvin returns to action late Thursday night, competing at St. Nobert of Wisconsin.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Calvin men's and women's lacrosse games with Hope on Wednesday were postponed by wintry weather. Both games were scheduled non-conference games. Whether the games will be made up at a future date has not yet been determined.
BASEBALL
A four-game conference doubleheader between Calvin and Kalamazoo has been moved to nearby Davenport University in Caledonia this weekend.
The series is now scheduled to begin with a doubleheader at Davenport's Farmer's Athletic Complex at 2 p.m. on Friday and will continue with a second doubleheader on Saturday at noon at the same location.
The original dates had Kalamazoo hosting Calvin on March 13 and Calvin hosting Kalamazoo on March 19.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Calvin men's basketball team will face Illinois Wesleyan University Friday night in a sectional semifinal game of the NCAA III Tournament at 8:30 p.m. (EDT). The game will be played at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.
Immediately following the game, all are invited to gather on the east side of the indoor track in the Shirk Center (the IWU fieldhouse), directly next to the gym, for snacks and beverages. After the team showers and has the required NCAA press conference, we'll greet them, Coach Vande Streek and the other coaches in a hearty Calvin reception.
