Women's Basketball Rolls to Win Over Illinois Institute of Technology;
Warners Acceptance Speech Now Available Online
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin 95, Illinois Institute of Technology 28
CHICAGO, IL - The Calvin women's basketball team improved to 6-3 with a 95-28 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday night. Formerly an NAIA school, ITT recently reinstituted its men's and women's basketball programs and is currently an NCAA III provisional member institution.
Calvin jumped out to a 21-4 lead and led 48-6 at halftime. Calvin shot 50 percent in the first half and then shot 52.8 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play.
Calvin was led by freshman Anna Timmer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) who notched double-digits in scoring for the second straight game with a team-high 11 points. Junior Abby VanderWoude (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) was next with 10 points while junior Breanna Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) and freshman MacKenzie Shelton () had nine points apiece.
ITT was led in scoring by Lauren Capuano with 14 points.
Calvin returns to action on December 27 when it faces Marygrove College at 3 p.m. in a tournament hosted by Davenport University.
VOLLEYBALL
On Thursday, Calvin College head volleyball coach Amber Warners was named the AVCA Division III National Coach of the Year. As part of the ceremony, Warners gave an acceptance speech. A video of the speech captureed by the AVCA can be watched online at: http://vimeo.com/82400044
