Women's Cross Country Ranked Third/Men's Cross Country 19th;
Calvin Runners Receive Great Lakes All-Region Honors

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Fresh off a Great Lakes Regional title last Saturday, the Calvin women's cross country team has risen two spots in the national rankings. The Knights are ranked third in this week's Division III Top 35 poll conducted by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. The ranking is Calvin's highest since the 2009 season. Johns Hopkins is the top-ranked team in the poll while Williams (Ma.) is ranked second.

In addition, five members of the Calvin women's cross country team have received Great Lakes All-Region honors for finishing in the top-35 individually as the regional meet on Saturday. Those five Calvin individuals are freshman Cassie Vince (Amherst, OH/Amherst HS), senior Nicole Michmerhuizen (Holland/Holland Christian HS), junior Kimby Penning (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS), senior Alyssa Oram (Chebogyan/Home Schooled) and senior Rebekah Folkema (Renfrew, ON/Renfrew Collegiate Institute).

The Calvin women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA III Championships on Saturday at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. It will mark the 24th trip to the national meet for the Calvin women's program which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III list.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The Calvin men's cross country will head into the NCAA III Championships ranked 19th nationally. The Knights received the ranking earlier today when the USTFCCCA released its pre-nationals Top 35 poll.

The ranking is a drop of one spot for the Calvin men's cross country which entered last week ranked 18th.

At the Great Lakes Regional meet last Saturday, Calvin took second with 79 points to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA III Championships this Saturday in Hanover, Indiana. Calvin will be making its 29th trip to the NCAA III Championships which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III men's cross country list.

In addition, six members of the Calvin men's cross country team have received Great Lakes All-Region honors for finishing in the top-35 individually at Saturday's regional competition.

Those six individuals are junior Josh Ferguson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS), freshman Zac Nowicki (Comstock Park/Calvin Christian HS), senior Philip Spitzer (Buckley/Buckley HS), sophomore Jeff Meitler (New Berlin, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran HS), senior Sam Kerk (Hartland, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) and junior Steven Haagsma (Grandville/Calvin Christian HS).
