Calvin Freshman Named National Runner of the Week in Division III;
Megan Rietema Claims MIAA Specialty Player of the Week Accolades for 10th Time in Career;
Calvin/Hope Knight of Nets Set to Take Place Tuesday

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named Calvin College freshman Cassie Vince its NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week for week three of the NCAA cross country season.

A native of Amherst, Ohio (Amherst HS), Vince of No. 11 Calvin led the Knights to a decisive team victory at their own Calvin Knight Invitational that included a top-35 team in Case Western and a top-25 NAIA program in No. 9 St. Francis (Ill.). Vince completed the 5K course in 17:40.77, more than 13 seconds ahead of the next-fastest finisher. Behind Vince's average per-mile pace of 5:41, No. 11 Calvin easily triumphed over St. Francis and Case Western in the team race by 61 points, scoring a first place team score of 40 points.

Calvin is back in action on September 28 when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian College.

VOLLEYBALL

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin setter Megan Rietema its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through September 15.
Rietema, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), dished out 151 assists (10.1 per set), had a hitting percentage of .429 and added 37 digs for the week as Calvin remained unbeaten with five consecutive victories, including a 4-0 mark at a weekend tournament at Wittenberg, Ohio. She had seven kills, 20 assists and six digs in an MIAA win over Trine. In a tournament win over Otterbein, Ohio, she had 10 kills, 32 assists and nine digs. Rietema is being honored as Specialty Player of the Week for the second time this season and tenth time in her career.

MEN'S SOCCER/VOLLEYBALL NOTE

Tuesday will feature a doubleheader of Calvin/Hope rivalry action as the men's soccer teams will meet at Zuidema Field at 4:30 p.m. with the volleyball teams from Calvin and Hope set to face each other at 7 p.m. inside Van Noord Arena.
