Calvin Swimming and Diving Program Honored for Academic Success by CSCAA;
Calvin Grads Making Their Mark in Front Office of West Michigan Whitecaps
 
SWIMMING AND DIVING
 
The Calvin College swimming and diving program has received several academic
awards from the College Swim Coaches Association of America.
 
The Calvin women's swimming and diving team has once again received the CSCAA
Team Scholar All-America Award. The Team Scholar All American award is
presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have
achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is
presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the
semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships
(Winter/Spring).
 
The Calvin women's team recorded a 3.36 grade point average during the
recently completed spring semester.
 
In addition, two swimmers have received the CSCAA Scholar All America Award
while two additional swimmers have received CSCAA Scholar Honorable Mention
All-America status.
 
Receiving CSCAA Scholar All-America honors from Calvin are Rachel Colasurdo
and Kristy Kinzer while Kathryn Wrobel and Johnson Cochran have received CSCAA
Scholar Schlar Honorable Mention All-America recognition.
 
The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers
and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or
higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and
competed at their respective national championship. The award is presented in
the semester of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships
(Winter/Spring).
 
The Honorable Mention Scholar All American award is presented to college and
university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5
or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time
standard, but have not qualified to compete in their respective national
championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship
qualifying meets. The award is presented in the semester of the
NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
 
Colasurdo (Chesapeake, VA/Home Schooled) and Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN/Homestead
HS) both competed at the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships this past
March and were members of Calvin's NCAA III All-America 200 medley relay team
as well as its 400 medley relay team that claimed an honorable mention NCAA III
All-America berth.
 
Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View HS) did not advance to the NCAA III
Championships but had an NCAA B' cut qualifying time in the 500 freestyle.
 
A member of the Calvin men's swimming and diving team, Cochran (Mount Vernon,
OH/Mount Vernon HS) also did not advance to the national meet but had an NCAA
B'' cut qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke.
 
BASEBALL
 
Three Calvin College graduates are making their mark in the front office of
the West Michigan Whitecaps baseball organization. The three Calvin graduates
are Dean Exoo ('07), Nick Caudle ('07) and J.D. Triemstra ('09). All three are
graduates of the Calvin sports management program that is part of the Calvin
Kinesiology Department.
