MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The first set of Division III national rankings for outdoor track and field
have been released and both the Calvin men's and women's teams are
nationally-ranked.
In the first national poll released by the United States Track and Field Cross
Country Coaches Association, the Calvin women's team is ranked 15th while the
Calvin men's team is ranked 18th.
Both Calvin teams are scheduled to compete at the Grand Rapids Open on
Saturday at Houseman Field.

MORE MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has
announced its Athletes of the Week in track and field through March 24.
Calvin’s Erik Holstege (men) has been named the MIAA’s Track Athlete of the
Week.
Holstege, a freshman from Keswick, Va. (Monticello HS), posted a strong
performance against a largely Division I field at the Weems Baskin Invitational
at the University of South Carolina, finishing eighth in the men’s 110-meter
hurdles in :15.93. He also had a leap of 20 feet, 5 inches in the long jump.
Holstege is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the first time.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin College senior Tom Snikkers has added one more honor to his list of
post-season awards. Snikkers has been named a honorable mention All-American by
Division III News. Earlier this year, he was named to the D3hoops.com Great
Lakes All-Region first team as well as to the NABC Great Lakes All-District
second team. In addition, he was named to the All-MIAA first team for the third
straight year.
A senior forward, Snikkers hails from Jenison and is a graduate of Hudsonville
Unity Christian High School. This year Snikkers averaged 13.4 points, 6.0
rebounds and 2.7 assists a game while connecting on 45.7 percent of his field
goal attempts. He was a first team All-MIAA selection for the third straight
year and was named to the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region team.
Snikkers finished his career with 1,464 points - good for eighth place on the
Calvin all-time scoring list in men’s basketball.
WOMEN'S TENNIS

ALBION, MI - The Calvin women’s tennis team opened up conference play with an
8-1 loss at Albion. The Knights fell behind 3-0 after doubles, and were able
to win one singles flight.
In doubles, Irene Chen (Shenzen, China/Apple Valley) and Marissa Cloutier
(Grosse Ile/Grosse Ile HS) defeated sophomore Megan Visser (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo
Christian) and senior Bethany Zoerhof (Holland/Holland Christian) 8-1 at first
doubles. Margaux Kabodian (Novi/Mercy) and Heather Vogt (Saline/Saline HS)
defeated seniors Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) and Jordan
Ipema (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian) 8-3 at second doubles. Katie Blumberg
(Farmington Hills/Farmington) and Leah Saurman (Kentwood/East Kentwood)
defeated sophomores Samantha Reitsma (Grand Rapids/Northpointe Christian) and
Ali Roode (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) 8-5 at third doubles.
Calvin got its lone point of the match at fifth singles. Doezema defeated
Marissa Messenger (East Lansing/East Lansing HS) 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. All other
flights ended in two sets, but some were close Briton victories. Blumberg
defeated Roode 6-2, 6-4 at third singles. Heather Vogt (Saline/Saline HS)
defeated Zoerhof 6-2, 6-4 at fourth singles.
Calvin, now 2-9, 0-1 MIAA on the season, will return to action Sat., Mar. 30,
when it takes on the Flying Dutch of Hope College. The match is slated to
start at 1:00 p.m.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Calvin women's lacrosse team suffered a 22-2 defeat at Aquinas Tuesday
afternoon. Final statistics were not available Tuesday night. Calvin is now 1-6
on the year and will host Loras on Thursday at 5 p.m.
