Softball Picked Seventh in MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll;
Women's Swimming and Diving Honored for Academics;
Calvin Winter Sports Teams in the News

SOFTBALL

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball
race is highly competitive every spring, and this season appears to be no
different. Defending MIAA champion Trine and Alma, which won the conference
tournament last season, are the co-favorites to win this season’s championship
in a preseason poll of the league’s coaches. They each received 12 points in
the poll, with the Thunder capturing five first-place votes and the Scots four.
Coaches could not vote for their own team.
Calvin was picked to finish seven the preseason poll. The Knights will feature
a blend of veterans and newcomers this spring. Calvin will open its season this
weekend with a Friday night doubleheader at Centre College.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Calvin College women’s swimming and diving team has received the Scholar
All Academic Team citation from the College Swimming Coaches Association of
America for the 2012 fall semester.

To be eligible, a team needed to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point
average of 3.0 on a four-point scale. The Calvin women’s team recorded a 3.28
grade point average.

The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team is coached by Dan Gelderloos.
