Women's Soccer Rolls to Win at Albion;
Men's Soccer Moves Back Into National Rankings;
Volleyball Moves Back Into Number-Two Spot in National Poll

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Calvin 9, Albion 0

ALBION - The Calvin women’s soccer team rolled to a 9-0 win at Albion Tuesday
afternoon to move to 11-3-1 overall and to 10-2-1 in the MIAA. Calvin remains
in sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings.

Calvin led 4-0 at halftime and never looked back. Junior Danielle Carter
(DeWitt, MI/DeWitt HS) and freshman Christina Drost (Denver, CO/Denver
Christian HS) had two goals apiece.

Also scoring for the Knights were seniors Francesca Smith (Bloomington,
IN/Bloomington South HS) and Liz Cancel (St. Clair Shores/Fraser HS), juniors
Heidi Scholten (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) and Kelly Koets
(Grandville/Calvin Christian HS) and freshman Sydney Kinney (Ada/Grand Rapids
Christian HS).

Goalkeepers Ashton Hearn (Port Huron/Port Huron Northern HS), Lauren Merz
(Spring Lake/Western Michigan Christian HS) and Leesha Gunnink (Denver,
CO/Denver Christian HS) combined on the shutout for the Knights.

Calvin will continue a busy week on Thursday, traveling to Kalamazoo for a 7
p.m. contest.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin men’s soccer team is back inside the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America Division III Top 25 rankings. The Knights are ranked
24th in the latest poll, released earlier this afternoon.

It marks the first time since the second week of the 2012 season that the
Knights have been nationally-ranked. Calvin is currently 12-3-0 overall and
10-1-0 in the MIAA. The Knights own a 10-game win streak heading into
Wednesday’s home contest against Kalamazoo scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at
Zuidema Field.

Calvin is currently in sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings,
three points ahead of Olivet. Calvin has three regular season games left to
play.

In addition to Wednesday’s game against Kalamazoo, the Knights are scheduled to
travel to Adrian on Saturday (1:30 p.m.) and to Alma on October 30 (4 p.m.).

VOLLEYBALL

The Calvin women’s volleyball team has moved back into the number-two spot of
the AVCA Division III Top 25 rankings. The Knights were ranked fourth in last
week’s poll but moved up two spots after road wins at Alma and Hope last week.

Calvin (23-2) has been ranked number-two for most of the season but slipped to
fourth after a loss to Elmhurst College on October 12.

Calvin has since reeled off four straight wins. Washington University (Mo.)
remains the top-ranked team in the country. Washington defeated Calvin in a
five-set match in mid-September. Wittenberg is ranked third. Calvin defeated
Wittenberg in a three-set match in September.

Christopher Newport is ranked fourth, Hope fifth and Emory sixth. Calvin is
back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Trine University at 6:30 p.m.

Calvin will carry a 34-match MIAA regular season win streak into the contest.
The Knights can also clinch a share of the final MIAA regular season crown with
a win over Trine.
