Men's Golf Third at MIAA Jamboree - Still Leads Overall MIAA Standings;
Jared Rushlau Named MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week;
Calvin Volleyball Players Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors

MEN'S GOLF

CASCADE - With one league tournament left to be played, the MIAA men's golf
race has tightened up. Calvin remains the league leader but rival Hope is now
within 15 strokes of the Knights with Trine University 19 strokes behind.

Calvin took third at Monday's MIAA Jamboree hosted by the Knights at the
Watermark Country Club with a team score of 311 strokes. Hope took first place
with a team score of 299 with Trine second at 310.

The final MIAA Jamboree of the year is scheduled for October 9 at the Medalist
Golf Club with Albion College set to host. The winner of the MIAA fall
standings will claim the league's regular season championship and will also
host two of the three 18-hole rounds for the MIAA's 54-hole spring tournament
which determines the automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Tournament.

Senior Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) led Calvin with a
round of 75 that was good for a tie for fifth place individually. Junior Jake
Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and sophomore James
VanNoord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) had rounds of 77 while senior Ben Kuiper (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and junior Mark Allen (Oconomoc, WI/Lake
Country Lutheran HS) had rounds of 82.

MEN'S SOCCER

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin goalkeeper its MIAA Defensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer for
games played through Sept. 30.

Rushlau, a senior from Grandville (Grandville HS), had back-to-back shutout
performances in net as the Knights won twice to move into second place in the
MIAA standings. He made four saves, including two saves on early scoring
chances, in a 1-0 road victory over Hope, and seven saves in a 5-0 win over
Kalamazoo.

Rushlau is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his
career. Calvin will host Adrian on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Zuidema Field.

VOLLEYBALL

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin outside hitter Lizzie Kamp its Position Player of the Week and Calvin
setter Megan Rietema is Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches
played through September 30.

Kamp, a senior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), slammed 16 kills
and had an attack percentage of .583 as the Knights maintained first place in
the MIAA with a sweep of Saint Mary’s.

Kamp is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season and
fifth time in her career. Rietema, a junior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian
HS), dished out 38 assists and added six kills, seven digs and five blocks in
Calvin’s sweep of Saint Mary’s.

She is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and
seventh time in her career.
