WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Calvin women's basketball team finished as one of the top teams in Division III this past spring and now the Knights have finished as one of the top academic squads as well.

Under the direction of head coach John Ross, the Knights have received the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Academic Honor Roll Award. The Knights finished 11th amongst all Division III schools with a team GPA of 3.518.

The honor comes on the heels of a 2011-12 season that saw the Calvin women's basketball team reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA III Tournament and finish with an overall record of 28-2.

Calvin was one of three MIAA institutions to receive the WBCA Academic Honor Roll award as Hope and Saint Mary's were also so honored.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll annually recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA and junior/community college institutions that carry the highest combined grade point averages inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.

VOLLEYBALL

For the third consecutive year, the Calvin women's volleyball team has received the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The award is given to all collegiate institutions that post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.30 or above.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

During the year, Calvin had two individuals named Capital One Academic All-Americans as senior Rebecca Kamp and junior Lizzie Kamp were both so honored.
Under the direction of head coach Amber Warners, Calvin also had a big year on the volleyball court as the Knights were ranked number-one throughout the regular season and finished the year with an overall record of 33-1.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Calvin women's swimming and diving team has been named to the College Swim Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America honor roll list for the spring semester. In order to receive the award, a team must post a 3.10 grade point average or above. The Calvin women's team also was named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America honor roll list for the fall semester as well.

In addition, Calvin had three individuals from its swim program receive individual CSCAA All-America honors as junior Sam Klaasen and freshman Erika Waugh of the women's team and sophomore Andy Krafft of the men's team were so honored. In order to receive the award, individuals needed to have posted at least an NCAA III conditional qualifying score and post a 3.10 grade point average.

Klaasen is from Holland and is a graduate of Holland Christian High School. She was the MIAA Most Valuable Diver on the women's side this past February. Waugh is from Berne, Indiana, and is a graduate of South Adams High School. She posted an NCAA III conditional qualifying time in the 200 backstroke this year.

Krafft is from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was the MIAA's Most Valuable Diver on the men's side this winter. He also claimed All-America honors on both the one and three-meter boards.
