Men's Tennis Splits Matches at MIAA/North Coast Challenge

OBERLIN, OH - The Calvin men's tennis team split a pair of matches at the MIAA/North Coast Challenge hosted by Oberlin College Friday. Calvin opened play with an 8-1 loss to regionally-ranked DePauw. The Knights then came back to top Ohio Wesleyan 9-0 Friday afternoon. The Knights are now 6-7 on the year.
In the loss to DePauw (12-4), ranked eighth in the most recent set of regional rankings, Calvin's lone point came from its No. 1 doubles team of juniors Preston Phillips and Philip Reinken as the duo claimed an 8-3 win.
Against Ohio Wesleyan (6-10 overall), Calvin took all three doubles points with Phillips and Reinken winning 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, junior Brian DeMaagd and sophomore Loukas Peterson winning 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and senior Vashan Wright and junior Jarrod Brower winning 9-8 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, DeMaagd claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles while Phillips was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. singles. Reinken claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, Peterson a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and Brower an 0-6, 6-0, 10-3 win at No. 5 singles.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it faces Oberlin College at 9 a.m.
