Swimming and Diving Teams Place Second at University of Chicago Classic;
Calvin/Hope Women's Basketball Rivalry Featured on d3hoops.com
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
CHICAGO, IL - The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams both
finished second at the University of Chicago Classic late Saturday night with
the Calvin men placing second with 878 points while the Calvin women were
second with 709 points. Host Chicago won both the men's and women's
competitions with the Chicago women posting a team score of 1,107,5 points and
the Chicago men posting a total of 834.5 points.
On Saturday, highlights for the Calvin men included:
*Sophomore diver Andrew Kraft winning the one and three-meter competitions. His
winning score on the one-meter board of 540.60 was a pool record, a new Calvin
(school) record, a season-best performance and an NCAA III qualifying total.
His winning score of 545.80 on the three-meter board was also a season-best and
NCAA III qualifying total.
*Freshman Travis Vincent taking third in the 400 IM (4:25.95).
*Junior Mark Rushlow taking second in the 100 butterfly (52.55) and second in
the 200 butterfly (1:59.85).
*Senior Ross Battoclette taking second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.78).
*Junior Mathias Bares placing fourth in the 1,650 freestyle (17:08.26).
On Saturday, highlights for the Calvin women included:
*Junior Rachel Colasurdo taking third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.11).
*Calvin going 1-2-3 in the 200 freestyle with junior Stephanie Fox winning in a
time of 1:59.60 while freshman Kathryn Wrobel was second (2:01.45) and
sophomore Margaret Rechel third (2:02.37).
*Calvin posting a 1-3 finish in the 100 freestyle with Fox winning in a time of
54.86 and senior Rachel Bos placing third (56.02).
*Junior Elizabeth Counsell placing second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.35) and
200 breaststroke (2:31.75).
*Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team of Counsell, freshman Alex Dhaenens, junior
Shelby Cloyd and Fox placing second (8:12.87).
*Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of Dhaenens, Bos, Colasurdo and Fox placing
second in a time of 3:40.59.
*Cloyd placing second in the 1,650 freestyle (18:11.20).
*Junior Samantha Klaasen taking second on the one-meter (423.95) and
three-meter (410.80) boards with her score on the one-meter board a season-best
and NCAA III qualifying score. Freshman Rebecca Mumby also had season-best
performances in placing third on the one-meter board (390.40) and three-meter
board (356.65).
*Freshman Erika Waugh placing third in the 200 backstroke (2:15.08).

Both Calvin teams return to action on Friday hosting dual meets against Alma
and Saint Mary's (women only) starting at 6 p.m. at Calvin's Venema Aquatic
Center.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Calvin-Hope women’s basketball rivalry is featured in d3hoops.com’s most

The weekly column focuses on two local teams that have not only battled for
conference bragging rights but also national honors.
Both teams are currently ranked in the d3hoops.com Top 25 poll with the Calvin
women ranked fourth and the Hope women ranked 14th.
