Calvin senior Rebecca Kamp leads the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America®
Division III Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kamp has been chosen as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year
award winner for Division III volleyball. She is the third individual in Calvin
athletics history to be named a recipient of the Academic All-America of the
Year award selected by CoSIDA as Chris Knoester was so honored in men's
basketball in 1994 and Joel Klooster in men's cross country/track and field in
2002.
 
In addition, she has also been named to the Capital One Academic All-America
first team while her sister Lizzie Kamp has been named to the Capital One
Academic All-America second team.

The Capital One Division III Academic All-America® program is being
financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to
assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12
D-III Capital One Academic All-America® teams program.

A special education major enrolled in Calvin's elementary education program,
Rebecca Kamp carries a 3.91 G.P.A. She also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America®
College Division first team honors as a sophomore in 2009. Only the second
volleyball player in NCAA Division III history to be named first team
All-American three years in a row, she was selected as the 2011 NCAA Division
III National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches
Association.

A native of Orland Park, Illinois and a graduate of Chicago Christian High
School, Rebecca Kamp led Calvin to a 33-1 record and a number one national
ranking as a senior. By averaging 3.85 kills and 1.37 blocks per match, she
guided the Knights to 33 straight wins before they lost in the regional finals
to Wittenberg, the eventual NCAA Division III champion. A middle-blocker, she
was honored as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable
Player three times in four years. She also finished her career as the Knights’
all-time leader with 1,868 kills. She also owns the school record with 574
career blocks.

As a junior, she guided Calvin to a 32-4 record and the Knights’ first-ever
NCAA Division III national championship. She was named as the Most Outstanding
Player at the NCAA championship.
Named as an All-MIAA selection four times, she helped Calvin post a 119-17
record in her four-year career.

A three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable
Player, Kamp led the 2010 national-champion Knights to the 2011 NCAA
Championship Tournament Round of 16 with 400 kills and a .401 hitting
percentage.
 
A junior, Lizzie Kamp also hails from Orland Park, Illinois, and is a graduate
of Chicago Christian High School. Lizzie Kamp carries a 3.70 grade point
average. She began her academic career as a graphic design major but recently
switched her major to accounting. She is receiving Capital One Academic
All-America honors for the first time.
 
An outside hitter, she was named a second team Division III All-American by
the American Volleyball Coaches Association last month while also landing a
spot on the AVCA Division III Great Lakes All-Region team for the third
straight year and a spot on the All-MIAA first team for a second straight
season.
 
This fall,she ranked 41st nationally in attack percentage at a .341 clip
whileaveraging 3.25 kills-per-set, 2.19 digs-per-set and 0.42 blocks-per-set.

She was named to all-tournament teams at the Thomas More Invitational and
theWittenberg Great Lakes Regional Challenge. She was later named to the NCAA
III Regional All-Tournament team.
 
Rebecca and Lizzie Kamp are part of three fall sports student-athletes to
receive Capital One Academic All-America honors this year. Senior Miles Colago
of the men's soccer team was named a second team Capital One Academic
All-American earlier this month.

Calvin has now had its athletes receive CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades
92 times including 61 times in the last 15 years.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must
be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a
scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at
his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information
director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic
All-America honors on more thann 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II,
III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
