Ben Kuiper Named MIAA MVP in Men's Golf;
Video Highlights of Calvin Men's and Women's Golf Outing;
Lizzie Kamp Named MIAA Player of the Week in Volleyball;
Alyssa Penning Named MIAA Women's Cross Country Runner of Week
 
MEN'S GOLF
 
Calvin College junior Ben Kuiper has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable
Player in men's golf. A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids
Christian High School, Kuiper is just the second MIAA Most Valuable Player from
Calvin in men's golf and the first since 1965 when Lloyd Dozeman received the
honor.
 
This past Saturday, Kuiper earned MIAA medalist honors by finishing on top of
the MIAA individual standings with a season average of 74.6 strokes-per-round.

 
In addition, Kuiper has earned a spot on the All-MIAA first team. He is the
second individual from his family to earn All-MIAA first team honors as his
brother Jon Kuiper was a first team All-MIAA selection in 2009.
 
Calvin junior Dave Sarkipato has also been named to the All-MIAA second team.
A native of Kalamazoo and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School,
Sarkipato finished the season with a season average of 77.2 strokes-per-round.

Video highlights of the final week of competition for the Calvin men's and
women's golf teams are now online. Calvin media relations manager Matt Kucinski
compiled a video montage of the Calvin men's golf team last Monday at the MIAA
Jamboree at the Watermark Country Club. The video montage can be found online

Kucinski was also present at the MIAA Women's Golf Tournament on Saturday and

VOLLEYBALL
 
Calvin College junior Lizzie Kamp has been named the MIAA Player of the Week
in volleyball. Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS),had
27 kills for a hitting percentage of .480 for the week as Calvin remained
unbeaten with three straight MIAA wins.
 
She had 14 kills in a sweep of Saint Mary’s, and had three service aces in a
sweep of Albion.
Kamp, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this
season and third time in her career, also had 11 digs and five blocks for the
week.
 
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a 7
p.m. match.
 
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
 
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intecollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin’s Alyssa Penning its MIAA Runner of the Week in women's cross country
for meets through October 8.
Penning, a junior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), finished third in the
small college (Division II/III) division at the Michigan Intercollegiates meet
at Hillsdale with a time of 18:28 over the 6-kliometer course. Her performance
led Calvin to a second-place showing among the 17 teams in the small college
division, behind only Division II Saginaw Valley State, with a team score of 79
points.
 
Calvin will now prepare to compete at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh pre-national
