Rebecca Kamp Named AVCA Division III National Player of the Week
VOLLEYBALL
Rebecca Kamp, a senior middle blocker for No. 1 Calvin College, has been named
the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. The Knights
went a perfect 4-0 last week in the Great Lakes Regional Challenge at
Wittenberg University knocking off two opponents in the AVCA Coaches Top-25
Poll in then – No. 3 Wittenberg and then – No. 11 Heidelberg.
After Calvin’s first win of the week over Mount Joseph where Kamp finished
with nine kills, the Illinois native turned it on the rest of the week.
Against host Wittenberg, Kamp nailed a team-high 25 kills in the five-set
victory and followed that up with a 15-kill performance over Heidelberg.
Calvin finished the tournament by defeating Ohio Northern with Kamp recording
another 14 kills to finish the week averaging 4.20 kills per set. For her
efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament Team and was also named Player of
the Week by D3VB.org.
This is the sixth time an athlete from Calvin College has earned the Sports
Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award, and Kamp’s third.
The last time she won it was the week of October 21, 2008. The Knights are
coached by Amber Warners. Calvin is currently 11-0 on the year and will play at
Olivet College tonight in a 6:30 p.m. MIAA match.
