Rebecca Kamp Named MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week;
Carlia Canto Named MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week
 
VOLLEYBALL
 
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin middle hitter Rebecca Kamp its Player of the Weekin volleyball for
matches played through September 10.
Kamp, a senior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 36 kills for
a hitting percentage of .542 as the Knights opened MIAA play with three
consecutive victories. She had 14 kills in 19 attempts for a .684 percentage in
a sweep of Kalamazoo and 13 kills in a sweep of Saint Mary’s. Kamp, who is
being honored as Player of the Week for the seventh time in her career, also
had eight blocks for the week.
 
Calvin is preparing for a big weekend of action as the Knights travel to the
Wittenberg Great Lakes Regional Challenge Friday and Saturday. On Friday,
Calvin will take on regional power Mount St. Joseph and third-ranked
Wittenberg. On Saturday, Calvin will take on 11th-ranked Heidelberg and
longtime regional power Ohio Northern.
 
WOMEN'S GOLF
 
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin golfer Carlia Canto its Golfer of the Week in women’s golf for matches
and tournaments played through September 11.
 
Canto, a sophomore from Marysville (Port Huron Northern HS), earned medalist
honors with an 83 at the North Central, Ill. Invitational and finished third at
the Olivet Invitational with rounds of 75 and 83. Her opening round performance
at Olivet set an individual Calvin school record and helped the Knights set a
team school record with a score of 340. Canto is being honored as Golfer of the
Week for the second time in her career.
 
Calvin returns to action on Thursday, competing at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by
Trine University at 1 p.m. at the Zollner Golf Club.
