Calvin Finishes 5th in Final Learfield Sports Director's Cup Standings
 
DIRECTOR'S CUP FINAL WRAP-UP

For the 16th consecutive year, Calvin has posted a top 25 finish in the final
NCAA III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, finishing fifth in the
nation in Division III in 2010-11 with a total of 762.25 points.

Calvin’s point total and its (placement) finish is its highest-ever in the 16
years of the competition.
Calvin is one one of only six schools in the country to finish in the top 25
every year that the competition has been held at the NCAA III level.
Joining Calvin in that elite group are Williams, Mass., Amherst, Mass.,
Middlebury, Vt., the State University of New York at Cortland and Emory, Ga.
Williams College, Mass., defended its title as the best athletics program in
the nation in Division III by winning its 15th U.S. Sports Academy Directors’
Cup with 1,147 points.
The Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate
Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Learfield Sports to the best overall
collegiate athletics programs in the country, and is based on points earned by
teams that compete in NCAA Championship events.
Division III points are awarded based on finish in championship competition.
Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish
worth 90 points. Third place is worth 80 points and fourth place finishes count
for 75 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish.

Calvin picked up 162.5 points during the spring sports season as its men’s
track and field took 14th at the NCAA III Championships, its women’s track and
field team took 18th while its men’s golf team placed 26th.
The finish by the Calvin men’s track and field team was worth 58.5 points in
the Director’s Cup standings, the finish by the women’s track team worth 56
points and the finish by the men’s golf team worth 48 points
Combined, 13 of Calvin’s 19 sports teams scored Directors’ Cup points during
the 2010-11 academic year.
In addition to its spring sports teams, Calvin received points this year from
its men’s and women’s soccer teams, its women’s volleyball team, its men’s and
women’s cross country teams its men’s and women’s swimming and diving team, its
women’s basketball team and its men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams.
