Oosterhouse to face Thavindra Ekanayake of Trinity, TX in NCAA III Singles Tournament;
Calvin In Fourth Place in Most Recent Set of Learfield Director's Cup Standings

Calvin College senior Melissa Oosterhouse has received her first round draw for the NCAA III Singles Tournament which gets underway Friday morning in Claremont, California. Oosterhouse will face Thavindra Ekanayake of Trinity University of Texas in a 9 a.m. (PCT) first round match. The winner of the match will advance to the Round of 16 for a 1 p.m. match against the winner of a first round matchup between Kristin Alotta of of Williams College and Kate Stanford of Sewanee University.

In the final NCAA III Regional singles rankings, Oosterhouse was ranked seventh in the Central Region while Ekanayake was ranked seventh in the West Region. Ekanayake is a first-time NCAA Women's Singles participant. She won the ITA regional title in 2009 to earn ITA All-America honors. Oosterhouse is making her second straight appearance at the NCAA III Singles Tournament. She was defeated in the first round a year ago by defending national champion Lorne McManigle.

LEARFIELD DIRECTOR'S CUP STANDINGS UPDATE
With the spring sports season winding down, Calvin continues to hold a high spot in the most recent Learfield Director's Cup standings. Calvin currently sits in fourth place with a total of 647.75 points. Calvin recently added 48 points to its total with a 26th place finish by its men's golf team at the NCAA III Championships. Middlebury (VT) holds a slim first place lead over Williams (MA) with Middlebury standing with 798 points and defending Learfield Director's Cup champion Williams close behind with 784 points.
Washington University (MO) is third with 739 points. Amherst (MA) is behind Calvin in fifth place with 587 points. The latest standings include the spring sports of men's and women's golf, women's lacrosse and (women's) softball.
Other sports still to come in the final standings include men's and women's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track and field, (men's) baseball, women's rowing, men's lacrosse and women's water polo.
Calvin's highest-ever finish in the Director's Cup standings is sixth place. A year ago, Calvin finished in 14th place with 634 points.
The Learfield Director's Cup standings are based on points earned by teams that compete in NCAA Championship events and is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Director's of Athletics (NACDA) to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country. The Learfield Director's Cup race is held at the NCAA I, II and III levels and also for NAIA institutions.
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA III Championship competition in up to 18 sports -- nine for men and nine for women. Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish worth 90 points. Third place is worth 85 points and fourth place finishes count for 80 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish.
Calvin is one of only seven schools to finish in the top-25 every year that the competition has been held at the NCAA III level.
