Women's Tennis Defeated by Saint Mary's;
Baseball Postponed Until Thursday/Men's Golf Tournament Canceled
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Saint Mary's 5, Calvin 4

The Calvin women’s tennis team played host to the Saint Mary’s Belles on
Monday afternoon. The match was played inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track
Center due to weather. The Saint Mary Belle’s game into Grand Rapids and
defeated the Knights 5-4 in a hotly contested match.
The doubles matches start off well for Calvin. Seniors Melissa Oosterhouse
and Katelyn Spoelhof defeated Jillian Hurley and Margret Boden 8-1. The
Belle’s bounced back to take second and third doubles by scores of 8-5 and
8-6 respectively. Jessica Kosinski and MC Fuller defeated Michelle Busscher
and Elise Doezema at second doubles. Rranca Peluso and MT Lee beat Laruen
Schlagerhauf and Bethany Zoerhof 8-6.
The singles storyline was much the same. The Knights started out strong.
Melissa Oosterhouse beat Jillian Hurley 6-2, 6-1 at first singles. Kaitlyn
Spoelhof defeated Jessica Kosinski 6-0, 6-1 at second singles, and Michelle
Busscher beat MC Fuller at third singles.
“I had never played Jessica before, but I remember her from years past,”
Calvin Spoelhof said after the match. “ I knew I needed to play smart and stay
composed.”
Saint Mary’s won the final three singles matches to clinch the overall match.
The clinching match was at sixth singles. MT Lee beat Elise Doezema 6-1, 7-5.
The loss drops the Knights to 5-3 in the conference and 7-9 overall. They
will be back in action on Wednesday when they play host to Grand Valley State.

BASEBALL
Calvin's non-conference baseball game against Davenport scheduled for Tuesday
has been postponed until Thursday afternoon. The Thursday game is scheduled to
begin at 4 p.m. at Calvin Field.
MEN'S GOLF
The Calvin men's golf team was scheduled to play at the Furniture City Classic
Monday afternoon at the Quail Ridge Golf Club. The tournament was canceled
because of snow and will not be made up.
