Women's Tennis Falls to Albion 6-3 - Snapping Conference Dual Match Win Streak;
Men's Tennis Team Picks Up Non-Conference Win Over Davenport;
Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams Ranked in Outdoor Top 25 Rankings
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Albion 6, Calvin 3
ALBION - The Albion women's tennis team handed Calvin its first conference defeat in two years Wednesday at Albion's Ungrodt Tennis Center, defeating the Knights 6-3. With the win, Albion moves to 3-0 in league play while Calvin fall to 1-1 in the league and 4-7 overall. Calvin grabbed the early advantage with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles but Albion struck back with five singles victories with Calvin's only singles point coming from senior Melissa Oosterhouse who picked up a hard-fought three-set win over longtime rival Shelly Zamler. Oosterhouse is now 23-3 all-time in singles play in MIAA dual match competition.
Oosterhouse also teammed up with senior Kaitlin Spoelhof for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while senior Michelle Busscher and sophomore Elise Doezema were 8-6 winners at No. 2 doubles.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Trine for a 1 p.m. MIAA dual match.

MEN'S TENNIS
Calvin 6, Davenport 3
KENTWOOD - The Calvin men's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 6-3 non-conference win over Davenport University Wednesday afternoon at the MVP Sportsplex. The Knights are now 8-5 on the year. Calvin took two of the three doubles points and then split the six singles points to gain the victory.
In doubles action, sophomore Brian DeMaagd and freshman Loukas Peterson picked up an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles with senior Andrew DeVlieger and sophomore Phil Reinken following with a key 9-8 win at No. 6 doubles with the Calvin tandem winning 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
The Knights then built a quick 4-1 lead behind a 6-3, 6-0 win by DeMaagd at No. 3 singles and a 6-1, 6-2 win by sophomore Preston Phillips at No. 4 singles. Senior Roland Eldridge then clinched the match with a clutch 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles after trailing 6-5 in the first set. Reinken closed out the match with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. DeVlieger fought hard but dropped a 7-6, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles that snapped his five-match (singles) win streak while sophomore Jarrod Brower dropped a heartbreaking 7-6, 3-6, 10-8 decision at No. 5 singles.
Calvin will now prepare to compete at the GLCA Tournament at Albion College Friday and Saturday. Calvin will open the tournament against eighth-seeded Ohio Wesleyan at 9 a.m. Calvin will enter the tournament as the ninth seed. MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The first set of Division III Top 25 rankings for outdoor track and field have been released by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association and both Calvin teams are ranked in the top 25.
In addition, the Calvin women are ranked number-one in the women's Great Lakes Regional poll while the Calvin men are ranked third in the men's Great Lakes Regional poll.
The Calvin women's track and field is ranked ninth in the women's poll while the Calvin men's track and field team is ranked 21st. Both Calvin track and field teams will compete at the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational this Saturday.
