Women's Indoor Track & Field Ranked 24th in Division III Top 25 Poll
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be sending three
individuals to the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships scheduled to be
held March 23-26 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Scheduled to compete for the Calvin women's team are sophomore Elizabeth
Counsell and freshman Elise Kaufman while freshman Andy Krafft will represent
the Calvin men's team.
Counsell (Indianapolis, IN/Heritage Christian HS) will be making her second
straight trip to the NCAA III Championships. She is seeded seventh in the 100
breaststroke, eighth in the 200 breaststroke and 41st in the 200 IM. A year
ago, she earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 breaststroke
with an 11th place finish. Last month, she was named the MIAA's Most Valuable
Swimmer after winning league titles in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke
and 200 IM. Her winning time of 2:19.74 in the 200 breaststroke was a new MIAA
and Calvin record.
Kaufman and Krafft meanwhile will both compete on the one and three-meter
diving boards.
Kaufman (Sugarland, TX/Clements HS) finished second on the one-meter board at
the MIAA Championships last month and third on the three-meter board.
Krafft (Fort Wayne, IN/Home Schooled) won MIAA titles last month on both the
one and three-meter boards. He was also named the MIAA's Most Valuable Diver,
becoming the first individual in Calvin men's swimming and diving history to
receive the award.
During the year, Krafft has established new Calvin records on the one and
three-meter boards for both a six and 11-dive competition.
The 2011 NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the
University of Tennessee.
Last year the Calvin women finished 24th as a team with 43 points. The Calvin
men sent one individual but did not score at the championship meet.
