Calvin Women's Cross Country Athletes Receive All-Academic Honors from USTFCCA;
Calvin Men's Cross Country Athletes Also Receive USTFCCA All-Academic Accolades;
Women's Basketball Continues to Be Ranked in National Top 25 Polls
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association has named its 2010 All-Academic recipients in women's cross country and six members of the Calvin women's cross country team have been so honored. In order to receive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, individuals must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Individuals from Calvin that received the honor include seniors Gretchen Braymer, Samantha Westveer and Alison Tuuk, junior Kaitlin Diemer, sophomore Alyssa Penning and freshman Alyssa Oram.
Along with Luther College of Iowa, Calvin was one of only two schools to have six individuals receive the USTFCCCA All-Academic award.
At the Great Lakes Regional meet this past November, Braymer (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) finished 10th individually while Westveer (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood HS) was 24th, Tuuk (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Christian HS) 27th, Diemer (Caledonia, MI/South Christian HS) 22nd, Penning (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Christian HS) ninth and Oram (Cheboygan, MI/Home Schooled) 35th. By finishing in the top 35 at the regional meet, all six Calvin runners earned spots on the Great Lakes All-Region team.
At the Great Lakes Regional meet, Calvin took first place with a team score of 69 points. At the NCAA III Championships the following week, Calvin took ninth place with a team score of 354 points.The Knights were led by head coach Brian Diemer.

At the Great Lakes Regional meet this psat November, Christiansen (New Ipswich, NH/New Ipswich HS) finished 24th, VanWyk (Sussex, NJ/High Point HS) was 15th, Kerr (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey HS) was 18th and VanderRoest (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor Huron HS) 11th. In finishing in the top 35, all four individuals earned spots on the Great Lakes All-Region team.
At the Great Lakes Regional meet, Calvin took first place with a team score of 57 points. At the NCAA III Championships the following week, Calvin took eighth place with a team score of 277 points.The Knights were led by head coach Brian Diemer.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Calvin women's basketball team continues to be ranked by a pair of national polls. In the most recent d3hoops.com Top 25 poll, Calvin is ranked 23rd, up two spots from a week ago. In the latest USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches' poll, Calvin is ranked 20th, up two spots from a week ago.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday when they host Alma at 7:30 p.m. at Van Noord Arena. The Knights are currently 19-4 overall and are tied for first place in the MIAA standings with Hope with a 13-1 league record.
