Men's Basketball Defeats Alma on Senior Day at Van Noord Arena;
Women's Basketball Now Tied for First Place in MIAA Standings With Hope;
Men's Tennis Competes at West Michigan Tournament;
Track & Field Teams Close Out Competition at GVSU Big Meet
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Calvin 115, Alma 65

Calvin’s four graduating teammates gave themselves amemorable farewell in their
final home game as Knights.
Calvin tallied 115 points en route to a 115-65 victory. Seniors Danny Rodts,
Trent Salo, BradSchnyders, and Brent Schuster combined for combined for 72 of
that prolificscoring total, Calvin’s highest since 2001 and first 100 point
effort in theVan Noord Arena.
The Knights shot a scorching 66.7% percent from beyond thearc, going 16 of 24,
just two shy of matching Calvin’s all-time record forthree pointers in a game.
Calvin pulled ahead early, taking a 14 point lead just sixminutes into the
game. Calvin didn’tlook back from there. Schuster knockeddown one of his four
three’s to take the Knights into halftime with a 55-33advantage.
Calvin came out of the break in the same manner. Rodts hit an early three,
increasing Calvin’slead to 25. The Knights’ offense neverslowed and remained
unselfish all game. Calvin finished with 27 assists and only 11 turnovers.
Freshman Jordan Brink added to his seniors’ send-off withsome second half
numbers. Brink scoredall 16 of his points in the second half, posting a
combined 9-9 shooting fromboth the field and the free throw line.
Rodts finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Salo chipped in 13 and three
assists. Schnyders had 16 points and 5 rebounds. And Schuster led all scorers
with 21 pointsand 7 rebounds.
“Before the game, we said we wanted to send our four seniorsoff with a great
game because they’ve given us an awful lot over four years,”said Coach Kevin
Vande Streek. Hecontinued, “We also wanted to build momentum going into the
conferencetournament.”
The Knights did just that.
With the win, the Knights are now tied with Albion at 7-5 inleague play while
Adrian, Kalamazoo and Olivet are a game behind at 6-6.
Calvin will travel to Trine on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m.contest. Trine has won
its last three games including four of its last five.

MEN’S TENNIS
The Calvin men’s tennis team opened its 2011 campaign at theWest Michigan
Tournament held at the Orchard Hills Tennis Center this weekend. Inaddition to
Calvin, teams competing included Aquinas, Davenport, Hope, GrandValley State
and Grand Rapids Community College.
At No. 1 singles, Andrew DeVlieger lost to Aaron Hendrick ofAquinas 6-0, 6-0
and defeated Alex Hughes of Hope 6-1, 7-5.
At No. 2 singles, Preston Phillips defeated Zac Chambers ofGrand Rapids
Community College 6-4, 6-2 and d. Jon Lautz of Hope 2-6, 6-3,10-7.
At No. 3 singles, Brian DeMaagd lost to Kyle Mastellar ofAquinas 6-4, 6-3 and
defeated Matt Jackson of Grand Rapids Community College6-1, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, Roland Eldridge defeated Matt Weiden ofDavenport 6-4, 6-2 and
defeated Gabe Casher of Hope 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, Phil Reinken d. Davis VanderVeen of Hope7-6, 6-2 and defeated
Eric Pell of Davenport 6-2, 2-6, 10-4.
At No. 6 singles, Jarrod Brouwer d. Tyler Chambers ofDavenport 6-3, 7-6 and
lost to Mike Sendor of Aquinas 6-3, 7-5.
At No. 1 doubles, Calvin’s team of Eldridge and PhillipsGrand Valley State 6-1, 6-4 and also to a team from Aquinas6-4, 6-4.
Calvin’s No. 2 doubles team of DeMaagd and Reinken lost toDavenport 6-2, 6-2
and to Grand Valley State 6-3, 7-5.
Calvin’s No. 3 doubles team of DeVlieger and Brower lost toGrand Valley State
6-4, 6-1 and defeated Grand Rapids Community College 6-3,6-2.
Finally, Calvin’s No. 4 doubles team of Loukas Peterson andJohn Strikwerda
defeated Davenport 7-5, 6-0 and Grand Rapids Community College 6-2,6-4 and lost
to Hope 5-7, 6-3, 13-11.
Calvin will compete in its first dual match of the season onMarch 8 against
Davenport at the MVP Sportsplex.
MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams completedcompetition at the
Grand Valley State Big Meet on Saturday.
