Swimming and Diving Teams Open Action at Winter Invitational;
Calvin-Hope Hockey Team to Feature Audio Broadcast Friday Night
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened up competition at their own Calvin Winter Invitational Thursday night. Thursday's competition featured just two events - the 1,650 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay.
After day one, Calvin is in third place in the women's standings with 61 points while the Knights are fourth in the men's standings with 48 points. In the men's 1,650 freestyle, sophomore Mathias Bares (Holland/West Ottawa HS) was seventh in a time of 17:03.22. On the women's side, Calvin had three individuals in the top-12 in the 1,650 with sophomore Shelby Cloyd (Kalamazoo/Plainwell HS) taking fourth (18:16.14), junior Bridget Scott (Oakville, ON/Kings Christian Collegiate HS) placing sixth (18:20.13) and freshman Claire Strunk finishing 12th (18:41.04).
In the men's 800 freestyle relay, Calvin's quartet of Peter Johnson (Oak Forest, IL), sophomore Mark Rushlow (Goshen, IN), junior Greg Gorham (Minneapolis, MN) and junior Ross Battoclette (Cincinnati, OH) took eighth with a time of 7:17.78. In the women's 800 freestyle relay, Strunk, senior Kendra Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN) and sophomores Rachel Colasurdo (Chesapeake, VA) and Stephanie Fox (Kentwood) were fifth in a time of 8:00.17.
Action continues with prelim events Friday morning at 10 a.m. with finals set for Friday evening at 6 p.m.

ICE HOCKEY
The Calvin and Hope hockey teams will renew their rivalry Friday night at the Eagles Ice Center at 7:30 p.m. Calvin will enter the game with an overall record of 10-4-1 while Hope will enter the game with an overall record of 13-1. The two teams will play again on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. at the Edge Ice Arena in Holland.
Friday's game at Eagles Ice Center (formerly known as the Jolly Roger Ice Arena) will feature a live Stretch Internet Audio broadcast with Calvin students Andrew Knot and Mitch Blankespoor calling all of the action.
