MEN'S SOCCER
 
The Calvin men's soccer team will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for a four-team NCAA III Sectional Tournament this weekend.
 
Action in the Oshkosh Sectional begins Friday with a 6 p.m. (EST) match between UW-Oshkosh and Loras College (Iowa). That contest will be followed by a 8:30 p.m. (EST) game between Calvin College (Mich.) and UW-Whitewater. Friday's winners meet Saturday at 7 p.m. (EST) for the sectional championship and a trip to San Antonio, Texas, for the semifinals and final on Dec. 3-4.
 
In addition to UW-Oshkosh, other sectional hosts are Bowdoin College (Maine), Muhlenberg College (Pa.) and Ohio Wesleyan University.
 
UW-Oshkosh (18-0-3), ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, started its tournament trail with a 2-1 overtime win over Carroll University and a 2-0 victory over North Park University (Ill.) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Titans, who shared the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title with UW-Whitewater, are appearing in their 12th NCAA Division III Championship.
 
Unranked Loras College (16-6-1) opened its postseason schedule with a 3-1 triumph over Greenville College (Ill.). The Duhawks then eliminated Washington University (Mo.), 2-0 on penalty kicks, after the teams battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie. Loras College, which shared the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with the University of Dubuque (Iowa) and Wartburg College (Iowa), is appearing in its sixth NCAA Division III Championship.
 
17th-ranked Calvin College (16-2-4) topped Ohio Northern University, 2-0, in its tournament debut. The Knights then ousted Dominican University (Ill.), 3-1 on penalty kicks, after the squads played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie. Calvin College, which shared the Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association title with Hope College (Mich.), is appearing in its 10th NCAA Division III Championship after dropping a 2-0 decision to Messiah College (Pa.) in last year's title match.
 
15th-ranked UW-Whitewater (14-2-3) kicked off its tournament trek with wins of 2-0 over Macalester College (Minn.) and 3-0 over Augsburg College (Minn.). The WIAC co-champion Warhawks are appearing in their 10th NCAA Division III Championship.
 
Daily ticket prices are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $4 for students (K-College).

VOLLEYBALL
 
The Calvin women's volleyball team will open play in the Elite Eight Round of the NCAA III Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday when it faces the University of Massachusetts Boston at 4 p.m. (EST). Calvin will be joined at the national finals by New York University, Emory University, St. Thomas, Juniata College, Christopher Newport University and host Washington University.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
 
The Calvin men's and women's cross country teams are headed back to the NCAA III Championships. The Calvin men's team will be making its 26th appearance at the NCAA III Championships which ranks fourth on the all-time NCAA III men's cross country list.
 
Under current head coach Brian Diemer, the men's cross country team has posted 18 top-four national team finishes including national championship performances in 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
 
The Knights will head into the national meet ranked fourth in the final Division III Top 25 regular season poll released by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association of America on Monday. Defending national champion North Central remains the top-ranked team in the country followed by Haverford (PA), Geneseo State (NY) and Calvin.
 
On the women's side, Calvin will be making its 21st appearance at the NCAA III Championships which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III women's cross country list. The Calvin women's cross country program has posted 15 top-10 national team finishes including four straight under current head coach Brian Diemer.
 
Calvin also has two national titles to its credit, winning the crown in 1998 and 1999 under head coach Nancy Meyer.
 
The Knights will head into the national meet ranked sixth in the final Division III Top 25 regular season poll released by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association of America on Monday, up one spot from their previous ranking. Middlebury is the top-ranked team in the poll with a unanimous eight first place votes. Middlebury is followed by St. Lawrence, Williams, Johns Hopkins and defending national champion Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
 
The NCAA III Championships will be held in Waverly, Iowa, with Wartburg College serving as host. Both Calvin teams received automatic bids to the NCAA III Championships by winning their respective Great Lakes Regional meets this past Saturday. The Calvin men won their 15th consecutive Great Lakes Regional title with a team score of 51 points while the Calvin women won their third straight regional title with a team score of 69 points.
