CALVIN FINISHES 13th in FINAL LEARFIELD SPORTS DIRECTOR'S CUP STANDINGS

For the 15th consecutive year, Calvin has posted a top 25 finish in the final
NCAA III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, finishing 13th in the
nation in Division III in 2009-10 with a total of 634 points.

Calvin’s point total is its second-highest ever in the 15 years of the
competition.

Calvin continues to be one of only seven schools in the country to finish in
the top 25 every year that the competition has been held at the NCAA III level.

Joining Calvin in that elite group are Williams, Mass., Amherst, Mass.,
Middlebury, Vt., Wisconsin-LaCrosse, the State University of New York at
Cortland and Emory, Ga.
Williams College, Mass., defended its title as the best athletics program in
the nation in Division III by winning its 14th U.S. Sports Academy Directors’
Cup with 1,292.25 points.
The Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate
Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Learfield Sports to the best overall
collegiate athletics programs in the country, and is based on points earned by
teams that compete in NCAA Championship events.
Division III points are awarded based on finish in championship competition.
Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish
worth 90 points. Third place is worth 80 points and fourth place finishes count
for 75 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish.

Calvin picked up 144 points during the spring sports season as its women’s
track and field took fifth at the NCAA III Championships, its men’s track and
field team took 55th while its women’s tennis team placed 17th.
The finish by the Calvin women’s track and field team was worth 75 points in
the Director’s Cup standings, the finish by the women’s tennis team worth 50
points and the finish by the men’s track and field team worth 19 points
Combined, 11 of Calvin’s 19 sports teams scored Directors’ Cup points during
the 2009-10 academic year.
In addition to its spring sports teams, Calvin received points this year from
its men’s and women’s soccer teams, its women’s volleyball team, its men’s and
women’s cross country teams its women’s swimming and diving team, its women’s
basketball team and its women’s indoor track and field team.
