Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams Post More Qualifying Performances at U. of Chicago Penultimate Invitational
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
CHICAGO, IL - A group of Calvin track and field athletes competed at the Penultimate Invitational hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. Over the course of the competition, Calvin recorded six NCAA III provisional qualifying performances and one automatic mark.
Junior Kim Wigboldy (Chandler, AZ/Valley Christian HS) had a huge afternoon for the Knights, achieving career-bests in the long jump and javelin. In the javelin, Wigboldy uncorked an NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 131-1 and had another throw of 140 feet that was wiped out by a late foot foul. Wigboldy's throw of 131-1 in the javelin was good for first place. In the long jump, Wigboldy took third with a leap of 17-11.
In the women's discus, junior Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN/Cambridge-Isanti HS) took first place with a season-best and NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 146-7. On the men's side, freshman Aaron Meckes (Bay City/Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS) had a season-best and NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 154-9. In the men's 110 high hurdles, senior Kelby McClelland (Mercer, PA/Mercer HS) had an NCAA III provisional qualifying time of 14.85.
In the women's 400 meter hurdles, junior Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) had an NCAA III automatic qualifying time of 1:01.32.
Other notables included freshman Carissa Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) matching a season-best in the high jump (5-3 1/4), senior Carla Lindemulder (Lansing, IL/Illiana Christian HS) recording a season-best in tying for second place in the pole vault (10-10) and senior Joel Klingenberg (Hamilton, ON/Bradenton Christian HS) winning the men's javelin (173-4).
