MEN'S TENNIS
This past weekend at the MIAA Mens Tennis Tournament, all seven men’s tennis
teams competing at the tournament donned royal blue t-shirts designed by Hope
men’s tennis coach Steve Gorno that honored Calvin junior men’s tennis player
Matt DeVlieger (Grand Rapids/Northpointe Christian HS). DeVlieger is currently
continuing his rehabilitation from a December 2009 scuba diving accident that
left him paralyzed from the waste down.
The T-shirts were designed by Gorno as a fundraiser with all proceeds going to
the medical expenses that the DeVlieger family is incurring as Matt recovers.
Calvin Media Relations Manager Matt Kucinski was there to document the opening
of the MIAA Tournament and caught the opening speech given to the competing
players by Gorno.

BASEBALL
Yesterday afternoon, the Calvin baseball team snapped a 10-game losing streak
against Aquinas with a 10-0 victory over the Saints in the second game of a
doubleheader at Fifth Third Ballpark. The victory was highlighted by a grand
slam homer by junior Andrew Bosma of Holland Christian High School. Bosma's
mammoth shot ricocheted off the top of the left field jumbotron and fell back
to the field. The grand slam was the first of Bosma's collegiate career.
The Calvin Sports Information office was there to catch the grand slam on
digital video. The grand slam can now be viewed on-line at:
