Calvin Currently 6th in Learfield Director's Cup Standings;
Men's Tennis Team Splits Saturday Matches in Hoosier State
LEARFIELD DIRECTOR'S CUP UPDATE
The latest set of Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings have been released and after the recently completed winter sports season, Calvin sits in sixth place place with 490.0 points.
Williams (Mass.) is the leader with 896.75 points, holding a 233.5-point lead over Amherst (Mass.) The latest set of standings includes the sports of men's and women's basketball, fencing, men's and women's ice hockey, skiing, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field and men's wrestling.
Calvin scored 349 points during the fall sports season and then added 141 points during the winter sports season, scoring in the sports of women's basketball, women's indoor track and field and in women's swimming and diving.
The women's indoor track and field team finished 11th at the NCAA III Championships this year which was good for 66 points. It's swimming and diving team finished 24th (50 points) and its women's indoor basketball team 33rd (25 points). Calvin has now scored points in eight sports as its men's and women's cross country teams, men's and women's soccer teams and women's volleyball team also competed in NCAA III Tournament competition this fall.
The Learfield Sports Director's Cup is based on points earned by teams that compete in NCAA Championship events and is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Director's of Athletics (NACDA) to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country. The Learfield Director's Cup race is held at the NCAA I, II and III levels and also for NAIA institutions. The competition was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today.
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA III Championship competition in up to 14 sports -- seven for men and seven for women. Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish worth 90 points. Third place is worth 85 points and fourth place finishes count for 80 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish.

MEN'S TENNIS
Denison 5, Calvin 1
Calvin 5, Wabash 2
CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN - The Calvin men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday at Wabash College, falling 5-1 to regionally-ranked Denison University and then defeating host Wabash 5-2.
Calvin is now 7-5 on the season.
In the loss to Denison, Calvin picked up a point at No. 2 doubles with senior Andrew Rescorla (Zionsville, IN) and sophomore Brian DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) claiming an 8-5 win. Denison then claimed victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to close out the match.
In the win over Wabash, Calvin took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with freshman Preston Phillips (Bexley, OH) and junior Roland Eldridge (Charlotte, NC) winning at No. 1 doubles and sophomore Jon Goorhouse (Holland Christian HS) and junior Andrew DeVlieger (Northpointe Christian HS) winning at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin then closed out the match with wins from Phillips at No. 4 singles, DeMaagd at No 5 singles and freshman Philip Reinken (Morton, IL) at No. 6 singles.
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Adrian for a 4 p.m. conference match.
