Men's Soccer Headed to Pittsburgh for NCAA III Sectionals/Women's Soccer
Headed to Rock Island, Illinois for Sectionals
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER
The upcoming opponents for the Calvin men's and women's soccer teams are now
in place for the third round of the NCAA III Tournament. The Calvin men's
soccer team (16-4-1) will face a Carnegie-Mellon (PA) which defeated Medaille
(NY) 1-0 yesterday afternoon. Carnegie-Mellon (16-2-1) was the co-champion of
the University Athletic Association this fall. The Calvin/Carnegie-Mellon game
will be a rematch of a first round NCAA III Tournament game from a year ago
with Carnegie-Mellon defeating Calvin 3-0. The other two teams in the sectional
bracket will include Swarthmore (16-2-2) and Transylvania (16-3-1).
Located in Pittsburgh, Carnegie-Mellon has also been selected to host the
sectional Friday and Saturday (November 20 and 21). Game times will be
announced later Monday.
On the women's side, Calvin (15-4-1) will face College Conference of Illinois
and Wisconsin champion Augustana (IL) as part of a four-team sectional hosted
by Augustana. The Calvin/Augustana game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
(EST). The sectional will also include Wheaton (IL) and Washington University
of St. Louis. Wheaton and Wash. U will play in the second game on Friday.
Friday’s winners will play in the national quarterfinal game at Augustana at
7:00 p.m. (EST).
Augustana (20-1-1) defeated Albion 2-1 in a first round game on Saturday and
Wisconsin-Stevens Point 1-0 yesterday in a second round game. Wheaton (17-4-1)
advanced with a 3-1 win over Carleton and a 1-0 win over the University of
Chicago. Washington University of St. Louis (16-3-1) advanced with a 2-1 win
over Webster (MO) and a 1-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan.
Ticket prices for the women’s sectional tournament have also been set.
General admission will be $6.00 with senior citizens, members of the military
and students $3.00 while children ages 3-12 will be $2.00.
