Emily Ottenhoff Named MIAA Women's Soccer Most Valuable Player
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Calvin College senior midfielder Emily Ottenhoff has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player in women's soccer. A native of Palos Heights, Illinois, Ottenhoff is the sixth individual in Calvin women's soccer history to receive the award. A graduate of Chicago Christian High School, Ottenhoff finished in the top 10 in the MIAA conference statistics in goals, assists and points. Overall this year, she has 15 points on the strength of six goals and three assists. Ottenhoff has also been named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.
She is joined on the All-MIAA first team from Calvin by junior forward Carly Prins and senior defensive back Allison Boender. Junior defensive back Kellie Honderd has been named to the All-MIAA second team.
A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School, Prins is making her third straight appearance on the All-MIAA first team. Prins currently leads Calvin in scoring with five goals, six assists and 16 points. Boender is from Grandville and is a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School. She is making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA first team. Boender anchored Calvin's defense this fall that posted 7 shutouts against MIAA opponents. Boender also scored one goal in MIAA play.
Honderd is also from Hudsonville and is a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School. Honderd has been a key member of a Calvin defensive unit that allowed only three goals against MIAA opponents. She has also collected two assists this fall.
This fall, Calvin captured its fifth consecutive MIAA regular season title, posting a 7-1-0 conference record. The Knights are currently 13-4-1 overall and will host a four-team NCAA III Tournament regional this Friday and Saturday. Calvin will open NCAA III Tournament play on Friday when it faces Washington and Jefferson College (PA) in a first round game at 1:30 p.m. at Calvin's Zuidema Field.
