Volleyball Players Receive All-MIAA Honors;
NCAA III Tournament Announcements Set for Monday Morning;
Hockey Team Splits Weekend Games With Northwood

VOLLEYBALL

Four members of the Calvin women’s volleyball team have received All-MIAA
Honors. Named to the All-MIAA first team from Calvin are senior Kelsey Sears
and sophomore Rebecca Kamp.

Calvin players named to the All-MIAA second team include sophomores Renee
DeHaan and Erin Vander Plas.

Sears and Kamp are both receiving All-MIAA first team honors for the second
straight year.

Sears is from Traverse City and is a graduate of Traverse City West High
School. A libero, Sears averaged 4.51 digs-per-set and 0.35 service aces
per-set in conference play this fall to rank sixth in the MIAA in both
categories. She was also named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week once during
the year.

Kamp is from Orland Park, Illinois. She is a graduate of Chicago Christian High
School. A two-time MIAA Player of the Week this fall, Kamp led the MIAA in
kills per-set (4.40) and was second in service aces per-set (0.47) and was
third in hitting percentage (.348) and blocks per-set (1.09).

Vander Plas is from Cadillac and is a graduate of McBain Northern Michigan
Christian High School. An outside hitter, Vander Plas was named MIAA Player of
the Week once this fall. She finished sixth in the MIAA in hitting percentage
(.286).

A middle hitter, DeHaan is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Grand Rapids
Christian High School. DeHaan led the MIAA in blocks per-set (1.17) and
finished fourth in hitting percentage (.315).

Calvin finished the MIAA season with a 14-2 record, good for a second place
league finish. The Knights then captured the MIAA Tournament title with
tournament victories over Saint Mary’s, Alma and Hope. Now 27-6 overall and
ranked 14th nationally, the Knights will head to the NCAA III Tournament this
week with the NCAA III Tournament field set to be announced on Monday morning
at 11:00 a.m.

NCAA III SOCCER/VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT BRACKETS SET TO BE ANNOUNCED MONDAY
MORNING

The NCAA III Tournament brackets for men’s/women’s soccer are set to be
announced Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at http://www.ncaa.com. The Calvin men’s
soccer team has secured an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament by winning
the MIAA title.

The NCAA III Women’s Volleyball Tournament bracket will be announced via a live
video streaming show on the NCAA website at 11:00 a.m. The link to the video

ACHA HOCKEY TEAM SPLITS WEEKEND SERIES WITH NORTHWOOD

Calvin’s AHCA hockey team split a weekend series with regionally-ranked
Northwood this past Friday and Saturday, defeating Northwood 9-4 at the Jolly
Roger Ice Arena Friday night and then falling 6-4 Saturday evening at the
Midland Ice Arena.

Currently ranked fourth in the latest ACHA Division III rankings, Calvin
received a hat-trick performance from Justin Blaauwendraat in Friday’s victory
while Tyler Spiering had two goals. Also scoring goals were Eric Doezema, Bart
Tocci, Ben Branden and Justin Balog. Jason Grinde picked up the win nets.

On Saturday, Calvin suffered its first loss of the year to fall to 9-1-0 on the
season. Scoring goals were Chuck Hofbauer, Mike Berkel, Steve Krommendyk and
Blaauwendraat.

Calvin returns to action this weekend for a series with an Oakland University
team that is ranked fifth in the North Region. Calvin will travel to Oakland on
Friday (Detroit Skating Club) and then host the Grizzlies on Saturday at 8:00
p.m. at the Jolly Roger Ice Arena.
