MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The Calvin men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted the Michigan
Intercollegiates on Friday at the Gainey Athletic Complex with schools from
around the state of Michigan competing. The Calvin women took second in the
women’s (5K) race while the Calvin men took fifth in the men’s (8K) race.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Calvin 3, Albion 0 (25-17, 25-17, 27-25)
ALBION - The 11th-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team improved to 13-4
overall and to 8-1 in the MIAA with a 25-17, 25-17, 27-25 victory over Albion
Friday night at Albion’s Kresge Gymnasium.
Calvin cruised in sets one and two but needed a come-from-behind effort to win
set three. Calvin trailed 18-11 but mounted an 11-3 run to take a 22-21 lead.
The teams then traded points until Calvin freshman Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park,
IL/Chicago Christian HS) stepped up with back-to-back kills after the set had
been tied at 25 to end the match.
Sophomore Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) led Calvin with
19 kills, eight digs, four service aces and an attack percentage of .350.
Lizzie Kamp tallied seven kills and four digs while junior Kim Wigboldy
(Chandler, AZ/Valley Christian HS) and sophomore Renee DeHaan (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) chipped in with six kills apiece. DeHaan also
had one block solo and four block assists.
In the back row, senior libero Kelsey Sears (Traverse City/Traverse City West
HS) recorded 21 digs while sophomore Kelly Peterson (Ramsey, MN/Anoka HS) had
10 digs. Senior Katie Corbett (St. Joseph/Stevensville-Lakeshore HS) also had
eight digs and three service aces.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Kalamazoo at 1:00 p.m.
inside the Van Noord Arena.

WOMEN’S GOLF
BATTLE CREEK -- Friday's first round of the MIAA women's golf championships at
Bedford Valley Country Club was postponed because of rain. The nine teams will
play 18 holes of golf Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at Bedford Valley, which
will comprise the tournament.
Calvin is currently in fifth place in the overall MIAA standings.

Men's Golf Update
The final MIAA men's golf Jamboree for the 2009 season, which had been
scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, has been moved to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at
Wuskowhan Players Club near Holland, because of forecast weather conditions on
Monday.
